Fancy touching up a couple of stone chips, is this place OK, cheaper than going to the dealer

In the same predicament myself. My general conclusion is that the touch in / scratch repair will improve the look but ultimately a high quality respray is always going to provide a better finish. just my 2p worth

@flimper agree with you on this one. Respray body panels starts raising questions for potential buyers! but each to their own I guess.

depends on what the problem is - theres some good touchup tips in the detailing section, and some recommended websites/products.

How would they know? I've been thinking seriously about getting mine resprayed but didn't realise that it could put buyers off in the future.

I can only think it's because either the colour doesn't match as one paint has been in the sun for years and the other is fresh or the panel you've sprayed might look too "perfect" next to the wings say if they are chipped...I guess it depends how many panels you'd do..?

Painting is a real sensitive subject.

BlackOut has it right, people question why one panel looks newer or cleaner than the others around it. My old Zed had a full front end respray. It looked awesome and the eventual buyer loved it, but a couple were unsure.

As for cost, it's a dear operation. But as my dyslexic friend John says "you pay what you get for". Front bumper alone, done by a good quality bodyshop is likely to cost you £200+.

A decent respray should be invisible. Its generally only poor quality resprays (including overspray etc), poor colour or poor flake matching that are noticeable.

A properly resprayed car shouldn't put any prospective buyers off because they won't even know about it.

They will know about it when the Zed with 60k miles doesn't have one stone chip to be found. That is where the sceptcism gets them.

Immediately after the respray, i agree. But a 1000 or so miles on its going to be marked anyway, just much less than it was.

I've had the lower front bumper on my car resprayed (after 35k miles and an altercation with a low wall) and you really wouldn't notice. Colour match is perfect and there are minimal stone chips elsewhere on the car so it doesn't stand out as obviously unmarked.

I have always been a fan of bumper resprays, as stone chips etc kill my OCD. I would worry if it ever got to that stage with my new motor though, not sure I'd be confident in someone replicating the ruby black finish!

It's not just the stone chips but also the road rash that winds me up. That and the egg shell marks

I think the road rash, stone chips etc are what drive people to wanting resprays etc. My OCD would love to respray and repair every little mark that ever appeared on a car, but respraying complex colours isn't always straight forward. No matter how good the painter is.

Do a clear bra on the bumper before you get stone chips and the bumper will handle stones much better. Pull the bra off years later and your bumper will look like new.
