Interior dash lights problems

Has any body out there had/heard of this issue with the zeds interior lights, or better still know what could be causing the following issue?

When driving all the interior lights (dash, speedo, radio - anything that has the orange glow) all go completely off, and then either flick back on or slowly fade in. When I first noticed this problem, it was a really quick flick off then on of the lights (almost like they blinked). The longer this issue has gone on the lights are really slowly fading out then gradually coming back in. The las time it happend the lights stayed off for 2 whole mins!

I have had the car into bmw and they cant locate the source of this issue & have never heard about this problem before. The only thing they said was the dash was auto dimming :headbang: which still doesn't explain why they completely go off!

Not sure if this happens to any of the other electric's as I don't really drive at night.

Cheers

I have had this issue a few times will both my 3 series and the Z4 but it's only for a second and comes straight back, bit worrying the first time, but not a problem.

If you put your finger over the internal light sensor do they dim?

Noticed this a couple of times on my car, very weird at first but it never seems to last more than a couple of seconds.

Same with mine. Feels good that I'm not the only one. But hope that this is not a symptom to something more serious.

AFAIK, there is none. :idunno: Just a sensor for outside light.

I had this phenomenon happen once in my M. Lasted a few seconds. This was over a year ago, and it hasn't happened again.

I had something worse happen one time...my TPMS light flickered indicating the sensor was faulty. This continued on for a few days, then corrected itself. I also had my overhead lights flicker but that corrected itself after a couple of days too. Both phenomena occured over a year ago, but hasn't done it again.

Damn, I hate electrical gremlins.

Light flickers are hardly the worst of electrical gremlins.

My parents VW Polo has had numerous problems....
electric window not working properly within a week of getting it
rear wiper refusing to stop
reversing light not working
indicators ticking oddly... ended up with smoke coming out of the steering column, the switch in the base of the indicator stalk was gunked up and started to burn :o

I'm sure there were a few more problems too.

where is the internal light sensor??

there is a little clear dot on the light switch centre top, put you finger over that and you will find the displays all dim

Same things have happened to mine maybe 4 or 5 times. The lights go out for a couple of seconds and then come back. It was checked under warranty and same thing. They couldn't find a single thing wrong according to their diagnostic machine. "Computer says no!"
