Intake rubber boot

I checked my DISA valve at the weekend (all fine thankfully) but I noticed the rubber boot that the intake goes into had several small splits in it. Since this is downstream from the the air meter I assume there will be unmetered air upsetting the mixture by making it leaner.

Is this a common problem? The part is only about £25.
 
I'm sure I've seen a guide on here for fitting with all the details but I can't seem to find it now. Mine has gone too.

Any idea of the part number please?
 
Correct part nos bought one today £25.30 from sytners then saw a leak and coolant header tank has sprung a leak, fricken car is bleeding me dry an pissing me off good style :x :x :x

Ok, swapped the boot over this afternoon. Straightforward job if a little awkward due to access.

I recommend removing the air cleaner housing - 2 x 10mm bolts, the MAF sensor wire & the big jubilee clip holding the air intake to the rubber boot & the DISA valve housing - 2 x T40 torx bolts & sensor wire.

With these removed you'll have much better access. Here is the area with the airbox, DISA & boot removed.



My 'small cracks' were actually sodding great splits. (apologies for poor pic quality)



When attempting to refit I struggled to fit the MAF pipe into the new boot until I realised the new boot came with a connector already fitted!



Whole job should only take 30 mins or so unless you are a bit ocd like me & feel obliged to give everything a realy good clean whilst it's apart. :wink:
 
This is an excellent post
Had a PO 171 error code when I put the aircon on.
Reset, then about a month later got po171 and PO 174.
Read this post and went straight to the problem!
£24 for new boot and about 30mins with a 10mm socket and jubilee clip driver job done!
