Insurance Shenanigans

This is the clause:
Endorsement E068: Declared annual mileage

Your premium is based on the vehicle’s annual mileage, as declared to your insurance intermediary at the inception of this policy. If you exceed this limit within a twelve month period, your policy may be invalidated and in the event of a claim, cover would be inoperative.

and another one of my exclusions:

Endorsement E117: Excluding theft when not garaged
Theft cover is excluded in the event of the insured vehicle not being kept in a locked garage between the hours of 10pm and 6am whilst parked at your home address as last notified to us.

So if is nicked from Tesco's at 4pm, then as long as you promise it has been garaged at the right times the you're fine ? Or can it only be stolen from your garage between the hours of 10pm and 6am, and outside these hours and location it is not covered ? Either way that's a bit mad...

Nope that's not what it means.....
If it's at my home address, then it is not covered for theft between 10pm and 6am unless it was in the garage.
However if the car is not at home, e.g. hotel etc, then it is covered.

So at 10pm, if its on the drive, then it has to go to bed !!

Yikes. Really shows how brutal an insurer can be :o

Wouldn't fancy forgetting to put the car in the garage at yours...

I have forgotten a few times, but can't see any special exclusions in my policy. Just asks where it's 'normally' kept at night

That's very precise indeed. I get that an insurance policy is a contract and you need to a) read the small print, and b) hold up your end of the deal, but really...
