To cut a longs story short, got renewal through for my ZMC Admiral: £320 on 16yrs NCB

Churchill online quote same details: £280

Chris Knotts, couldn't touch Churchill so no quote.

Called Admiral to query, discount here, discount there, removed my brother from cover (only for emergencies :) ), new quote: £218 - wowsers - done deal

So, the old adage that it pays to shop and query still true :)

lucky you. my premium went up from £530 to £620 when i shopped around online as i left it until the last minute :headbang:

Just been online to check my renewal with Admiral. Across the two cars the premium has gone up by £10, ///M down by £13, Mrs Astra up by £23. No rhym or reason why one gone up and one gone down.

More worrying though was the fact that all my mods had been removed, except the last one I added, the GruppeM back in April. That could have been interesting in the event of an accident

Anyway they added them back on, CSL's, Strut Brace, PDC, Exterior Changes, Interior Changes and the policy went up by £8. Bit miffed about this even though I knew what he was saying that the renewal would have been £8 if they had still been listed. Couldn't tell me why they had been knocked off.

Also looked at increasing the excess on Mrs. car as it was total £160, but could only change to £270 for £-6.69 or £310 for £-20.08 so left as is. Also asked about the Legal cover but as last year they said on my particular policy it is free, if they remove there would be no refund. I advised my dad has just taken a policy with them and he could remove, which he confirmed was the case for new business.

Finally asked him to look to see what he could knock off. In the end managed to get just over £33 off the ///M and £29 of the Astra bringing the combined cost to £402.69. Pretty pleased with that as I was paying around £400 just for the ///M 4 years ago.

I did do a few comparison website check, but having mods makes life difficult. Any prices I did get though were way in excess of what I'm paying.

I think the problem with insurance quotes is trying to compare like with like. I think I could have got the Z4 insured cheaper than Chris Knott but I noticed at least two things different. The excess went up a lot and so did the breakdown cover! Also there is no excess if the other party is to blame (I think!).

I do hate having to 'shop' around for the best quote, why don't they send you their best quote rather than trying to be sneaky and put you premium up each year? Most folk have access to the internet now and the comparison websites will show up any overcharging.
