Insurance Renewal Quote: Honesty = Relief

It's renewal time again with Direct Line and I thought it best to be honest with them on my recent mods to the car. I was worried my honesty would be rewarded with a likely response of either "we can't cover you" or "that'll be an extra £000 please". After the dreaded "I'll just put you on hold sir" the nice lady came back and said "no extra charge". The mods are 326's and M-Sport front and rear bumpers. What a relief! :D

Exactly what should have happened. How can alternative wheels and bumpers make a blind bit of difference to the "risk"!

Depends...

Maybe if the wheels looked like this:

And the if the bumper looked like this:

I guess from the insurer's perspective there are a few angles:

1 If they can avoid paying out they will and if I have a modified car and haven't declared it they can avoid paying out?
2 The value of the car is, arguably, increased so more desirable to a thief?
3 The cost of repair/replacement of the parts will be higher if damaged?
4 The (unfair?) reputation that people who mod cars are more likely to drive carelessly, street race etc?

So from my perspective I'm very glad they've considered it and not increased the premium. It may be something to do with 9 years NCB, no endorsements and a rapidly approaching near-Saga-qualifying 47 years of age! :)

I am pleased insurance companies are been sensible - as I stick with admerial and honesty is the best policy: Even with my list of mods my renewal is reasonable.

My list of mods is zero ... the yearly insurance renewal circus is bad enough without having say a remap to excite them  :D
