Insurance hike ...

My insurance of all cars have doubled this year (or more than doubled) for each car on the multi car policy.

In the past, I thought you could get the Z4 on ClassicLine insurance but they don't seem to do that now "due to the specialist nature of the car". What is a decent company to work with now? Before I call Admiral to try to understand why for example, the Abarth went from £150 to £475, I need to get some comparison costings for all the other cars.

I've been using LV for a few years, although we haven't made any claims they are good to deal with and don't seem to hike up the price every year necessitating a phone call. Not sure whether they quote on these 'GoCompare' type websites or not. Possibly worth a try.

I’m with Hastings and mine went up to £295.00, a £22.00 increase over last year. Wife on the policy and only a windscreen replaced on my van last year and plus 9 years NCB. I rang Chris Knott and they thought that wasn’t too bad, they quoted £331.00. So I stayed with Hastings. Seems high though for a 2.2 if you ask me.

oh it has business use on it.

seems to be a common theme. on the Range Rover Sport forum I am on, there are lots of similar complaints. Not looking forward to my renewals!

My X5M - from new it was around the £450 mark, now over £900. Madness, but the insurance quotation process is so painful ...

I thought about taking out an Admiral multi car policy earlier this year. Z4, E46 320d and a 53 plate Fiesta as they were all about due at the same time. Done individually about £500, total.

Admiral, with their introductory discount, were up to £1200 before the Fiesta.... Something about games of soldiers came to mind.

Plug the details into confused.com or similar. I can't remember the last time I chased around individual companies but it must have been painful or expensive. Or both.

I checked that my 224s with non run flats were still okay as it wasn’t on the renewal. OMG, I was on hold multiple times while she went off for advice higher up. Are they wider, yes, are they the same tyre make as when new, no they are non runflats, oh. Back on hold. What make are they, will they be the same when you change them, no. In the end it was decided that it didn’t matter. Wish I’d kept my gob shut. :headbang:

They might have something to say if they're obviously wrong (eg X5 or 7er) or aftermarket but I don't think they care much about manufacturer alloys these days if they were a possible option choice when new (or, with the 224s, on a Z4 at least!)

Just renewed mine on the M140i and was dreading it after reading all the crazy stories on the various Facebook M140i groups. Seemed people's renewals were going up by literally 1000s  although I think some of it is down to bad reputation the car is getting, youngsters crashing them etc.

A Plan insurance seem to be getting alot of mentions on the various groups. Might be worth trying BMW insurance as well if the car isn't modified as they can be quite competitive.

I'm with Adrian Flux on both the BMW and Hyundai. The 140i luckily only went from £320 to £400 so not a great increase compared to some so was pleased with that. The Hyundai I renewed in March and was £365.

It was on my local radio station yesterday about insurance hikes and supposedly down to all the usual inflation, repair costs, parts prices and hire car costs all going up, like everything else.

Tim.

Z4MC for the wife, 5 miles outside Shrewsbury, £137 last year up from £115 the previous year, due in 3 weeks and coming in at £130 ish from Swinton, Lloyds, Santander, Halifax.

Fully comp, 5000 miles pa, no compulsory excess, SDP no commuting.

Other 2 cars are actually more, despite 1 being 30 years old (£150) and the other a tyres shredding 1.6 Avensis ex-repmobile (which is nearly £300).

However when I tried to multicar them it was far more expensive, as usually one of the cars on the policy is not in the insurer's "desirable" category. LV "for all your family's cars" assumes nobody in your family drives a Maserati and don't cover some high end cars, and Admiral want over £300 for the Z4 alone this year.

Multi-car policies are a sham.
They are not cheaper, just more convenient for them and you.

I have also read about hikes on other forums, but I must be the exception to the rule.
Z4 is £205.00 p/a (wife and me as named) including remap declared.
Mazda3 is £185.00 (same)
Type R is £225.00 (me and wife as named)
All include commuting for the wife.
Even my 17 year old daughter only pays £145.00 for her Mini Cooper (although she is a learner so it will go up a lot IF she ever passes her test).

The car insurance (and even house insurance TBH) in our household is dirt cheap. I don't really know why! We live in the centre of a town, are not young but not that old (49 and 55).

I've put all sorts of high performance cars into confused.com and they are rarely more than £300 p/a for me! I AM the BEST driver in the world, but didn't think the insurance world knew that! :poke:

Just got my renewal up 25%

Last year, was £200 a tad lower than the previous.

So £ 250.-- checked confused and it's still better than the rest quoted :? These insurance companies in Cahoots ?

In April my renewal for my 3 Series from Saga had only gone up a few quid so I didn't bother looking for alternatives.

But in June it was time for my MC, and Adrian Flux were looking for quite a bit more than last year. As it has some modifications it's not so easy to get alternative quotes but I ended up back with Chris Knott at £370.

The only couple of times I've looked into Multi Car Policies I got good prices on one car, but not the other so I haven't bothered again!

Same complaints on 135i,140i forum.
My 2003 e85 3.0 was around £220 last year got a 135i recently £440 same details regarding postcode usage no claims etc, with the wife added after her recent accident £ 640

Dreading checking for a renewal quote which is due in September after hearing all these horror stories.

Currently with Carol Nash who is a broker and came up the cheapest last year on several comparison sites. When I got the documents, the policy is with LV who were quoting me a lot more when approached direct.

Strange world this insurance stuff

Got six vehicles on a insurance bundle with Heritage. This includes our two dailys Z4 and 5 series; three classics and a vintage tractor. Just sorted the renewal for the end of the month - gone up around £110 from last year but the tractor is new (well new to me!) this year and the legal cover is no longer discounted so only a few quid more last year to this.

I’ve just renewed the policy on the 335xd and although no material changes thro the year it’s gone up 22%
