Insurance Excess...

Hi guys - just a quick one.

What sort of excess do people have on their insurance policies? I'm being pushed towards £700 with Direct Line - but their price is very competitive. I've previously been with a specialist (via HIC) and had it @ £250 but their quote was £400 higher than Direct Line! I've not had the car long enough for Chris Knott to help unfortunately.

Just looking to see if £700 is ridiculously high - it's all compulsory (£500 + £200 for Eibach 'mods') - or in line with what others pay with mainstream insurers.

Of course I'll try to avoid any accidents either way :D

Thanks!

£500 (compulsory is £250) with Locktons. I thoroughly recommend them. I can choose my repair garage, get an 'overpayment' to prevent write off, agreed valuation, and great customer service.

E.g. I sprained my (clutch) ankle and wanted to add my wife for a few days as we're on a European road trip...they added her to the policy for free for a few days. Over a 5 min phone call.

They sound great - I'll check them out tomorrow! Years ago I made a claim with Direct Line and it was painless so I've always trusted them - these experiences matter even many years later!

I'm with Chris Knott insurance. £340 premium, £250 XS. Just turned 30, live in London, agreed worth set each year and 9NCB. If that helps.

With excesses, I always weigh up the discount. Sometimes, you can get a hefty one for increasing the excess slightly. I always have a £500 ADF&T on my policy, as if the damage was less than say £1000 I probably wouldn't claim.

Renewal with tesco just through, £430 with protected maximum no claims and business use, £100 optional excess plus £250 mandatory. Could shop around but most coming in about the same for me.

Funny you say that - few years I was not impressed that they simply wouldn't cover me on my S3. This year, both my cars are with them (bought a new Golf, can't use my NCB and my other half hasn't been insured for about 8 years - came in £200 cheaper than anyone else). They were most competitive on both and gave discount against the Golf due to my 9 years on the Zed... impressive return to form!

Hmph - being a fellow Londoner i'm stuck with the usual myriad of Admiral Group sub brands on a multi-car. Sadly the merc is clearly a crimewatch car so premiums seem high regardless of ncb etc.

Try the centre of Manchester - a friend has a lovely flat, private parking, drives no more than 3k a year, 63 plate coupe C63... £1360 a year with a £1000k xs...

Thanks guys - feeling a bit better. Sounds like an awesome deal from Chris Knott - unfortunately as I've had my car less than a year I'm not eligible for a quote though. Maybe next year.

Direct Line are doing it for £240 which is mind boggling low - I was expecting £4-500!

Interesting... 39 years old, 9 years NCB, want to drive it 4k a year, have performance car experience, no accidents, claims or convictions...

Chris Knott - £600 policy... :headbang:

I'm with them too. £350 premium, £200 excess, 10 years ncb, Leicestershire postcode parked on drive.

I've been insured with them for over 5 years and 4 of those in the Z4m
