Insurance companies (direct insurers) that cover modified cars

I know that lots of members have modified vehicles so I'm hoping that they can help.

I'd like recommendations for insurance companies (not brokers) that will cover a modified vehicle, please.

I already have a good broker but the downside is that I can't edit my policy instantly online without fees. AXA is great for this, but won't cover a modified car (beyond some very basic changes). As I want to gradually change one of my cars, I need a direct insurer that will let me update my policy online and not hit me with an admin fee each time.

Thanks in advance!

I found LV are good with mods and haven't charged the dreaded admin fee every time I do anything. Don't know if you can add mods online, as they usually want a bit more info. A phone call has always sorted stuff for me. No experience of claiming, though!

I now use Sterling for my heavily modified 35is..

I did sing the praises of LV for a long time but on my last renewal I was honest about all the mods and it went up by factor of 3 times..

It was £299 previous year unmodified, then it was £309 unmodified..when I put the mods in then it was oveer £900..I just checked now and they won't even insure it... :tumbleweed:

I think if you have just a re-map and / or you lie then they may be competitive..

Just checked if I did it again today..Sterling is £351.. best price by some way..next is Peformance Direct at £480

AXA won't even cover aftermarket suspension and expensive wheels.

I want to do suspension and wheels first on my Mini to get it handling right then might bump up the power a bit if I'm happy with the results.
