Insurance by Gender??

With my renewal coming up soon I just tried Directline for a quote.

First I put myself as primary driver with my wife as the named driver.

Then, just to see, I put my wife as the primary and me as secondary carefully making sure all details remained the same.

So I'm wondering why when my wife is the primary driver it came out £35 cheaper!

Anyone else tried this?

BTW Direct Line came out about £120 less than Aviva's proposed renewal two years ago they were about £300 more than Aviva for us!

If I take my wife off my policy as 2nd driver. The policy goes up.

Work that one out!
Its always cheaper to add your wife. It brings the price of young drivers down if they say there girlfriend lives with them, but not for girls if their boyfriend lives with them.

Insurers can no longer use gender to calculate premiums. The EU Gender Directive stopped that in December last year....

Must be age, NCB, occupation etc that account for the difference.

Or, in the case of Tesco (clubcard) - they use your shopping contents to arrive at a premium :o

That's true but they were allowed to phase it out by November 2013.
