Instrument panel stain

Hello,

I have a detailing question.. I have a almost new Z4, and the only cosmetic thing wrong that bothers me is the instrument cluster, the clear plastic has a water stain. I researched that that the clear plastic is not interchangeable, I will need to buy the whole cluster unit... I tried cleaning with a micro fiber damp rag, but did not clean it off. Is there a product that will target this stain, that is not abrasive? I thought the stain was from the inside, but the dealer insists its on the outside... I appreciate any feedback...

You can remove the cluster with one torx screw between the guage pods that is fitted into the upper dash. After you have the cluster out - you can disassemble the clusters into about 6-8 pieces, and get to the plastic that way. I have done this, when I painted the gauge pods to match the interior.

Cunning,

Thats the answer I was looking for, I really appriciate it!!.. Hopefully the spots are form the outside, I will buy a solution to dissolve any residue.. If that does not work, then we go to plan B, your suggestion. Thank you very much Cunning!

I had the same exact thing and BMW swapped clusters under the warranty. I would call your local dealer and see if they will.

I had several water stains on the Z3 cluster (no clue how they got there to begin with) and used some Plastix and worked great: you can find it at Walmart, it's made by McGuires. I would recomand putting some masking tape around the area as colored plastic might fade (better be safe than sorry). I also use it to remove oxydation from the headlights and it's amazing how perfectly it worked (same here, put some masking take around the bumper, just in case)

Here's the before...

I dont think the dealer will change the whole cluster, I asked them, no luck.. It is under warranty though.. I will try the Mcguires see if it will fix the issue... Definetly will test it out before putting on the trouble spot..
