instrument and radio lighting

Hi I seem to have a problem from time to time with my instrument and radio back lighting.

Yesterday it went off twice and today it's gone off once.

I've read that other people in the forum have had similar problems but they have mentioned that it's just flickered.

Mine has gone off for 4 or 5 seconds and which has scared the life out of me going down the motorway as I thought I was about to suffer from power failure.

I dont think its due to poor light in the cabin as it was bright I didn't go through a tunnel, and it in effect went off, not dimmed and I could only really read it, as I knew what numbers were there before it went out.

I was wondering if it was anything to do with lack of power to that unit?

Nothing else seems to get effected when this happens.

Has anyone any ideas?

I get this once in a while, is the senor on the LCM (Light Switch) getting covered up by anything?

Also with lights on if you cover this up does the instrument panel lights dim?

I get the same - but so inconsistent never bothered looking further for it or mentioning to the stealer.

I normally notice it as it comes back on
