Installing a microphone

Just bought the latest Panasonic single din touchscreen head unit and quite fancy installing it myself.

It comes with a microphone and I have no idea how you route it from the back of the HU to wherever it's meant to end up (steering wheel column?).

Any ideas?

Mine's in the interior light fitting in the roof. There's a grille that is perfect to mount it behind invisibly. Just route the wire up the windscreen pillar trim and behind the headlining.

Yup, on an E86 it’s a doddle, on an E85 maybe on the rear view mirror

Mount on steering console, it’s where bmw fitted the factory mic (in the end)

Might go with this as there's no explanation on how to route and mount to the steering column.

On the parrot I installed on my E85 I initially had it up on the interior light but found it didn't work too well up there, particularly with the roof down. I then moved it to the steering column and it's much better. No doubt that's why bmw did the same on later cars

Managed to get it onto the steering column, was actually very easy to route the cable.
