Inspection 1 includes?

Long time no post...

I still have my M after three years a record for me and car ownership.

It's now due an Inspection 1 so I rang the independent M specialist I used for the last oil service for a quote. It was £228... too cheap I thought. It turns out they don't do the valve clearances on the Inspection 1.

Surely thats wrong?

Has anyone got any suggestions for an indi near Runcorn?
Are SJR in Chester any good? They seem to do the full job for £375

Some indies will tell you that if the valves aren't noisy, then they don't need doing. This is rubbish, as if they're tight then they'll be quiet, yet still likely to cause as much damage as loose/noisy ones. The problem with asking an indy to do the clearances when they've said they don't need doing, is you'll always worry that they've charged for it and not done them.

Probably be closer to £500 for a proper job.

If Stockport isn't too far, then I believe Darren Wood has a good reputation.

I've got no personal experience as I've been taking my (non-warrantied) M's to Darjac in Halstead, Essex.
