Insp 2 - done!

Just had the inspection 2 done on the MC, a painless experience at Elms Cambridge. 18 shims later and the engine is so nice and smooth and quiet now! And the diff has quietened down a bit too.

Had a 435i vert as a courtesy, nice car, especially with the magic adaptive headlights which move around and create pockets of dipped beam for cars in front of you to sit in and not get dazzled. Heavy though, does't feel 300-odd hp fast. Maybe I'm just spoiled.. One bonus of having a bigger car for a few days was being able to go and buy a tv that would never have fit in the MC! Oh and the price - £799 all in! Better than the £1100 odd that a few other dealers wanted!
 
defo worth it with that as a courtesy car....... 18 shims ay... bet thats running uber smooth now...
 
At what mileage is inspection 2? I had 1 inspection 1 and a few oil services and just hit 39k miles.

40-45k unless previous owners did it early. Mines due around 44k
 
43k miles for me. £799 for the Insp 2 at Elms, which for a dealer I thought wasn't too bad. Why would you cut the roof off a Z4 - it's the best feature :poke:
 
did you have to pay for the courtesy car? nottingham synters said I had to pay £100 or so for a courtesy car....which I thought was a bit bonkers...
 
No. The conversation went along the lines of "Because you are an M power customer, we wouldn't be happy putting you in a 1 series, so how about a 435i?"
Will almost definitely go back there for future services.
 
I must be off with my servicing due to the age of my car. If people are getting an Inspection 2 at 40k-45k miles that's quite early! Think I will just go with what ever Brystones suggest the car needs.

Approximate service schedule recommended for the Z4M
Run in service 1200 miles
Oil change 15k
Inspection 1 30k
Oil change 45k
Inspection 2 60k
Oil Change 75k
Inspection 1 90k
Engine explodes at 100k service not required - this is fact

15k is unlikely unless you do 200 mile trips every time at a steady 60mph, returning 30+mpg - as it's based on fuel usage (500 gallons IIRC).

Mine is getting about 14k between services, mainly because it's doing regular 200 mile each way trips at 'cough' 70mph and returning 27mpg-ish.

If you're doing lots of short, town trips and averaging 20mpg then you're going to see a service message every 10k miles.

BTW, mine's on 123k miles and it's only had one replacement engine (didn't actually go bang) - 100k miles ago :thumbsup:
 
mine is due next year October will be on about 32000 wont be mileage but years serviced every year and inspection 1 done 2 years ago
