Insp 1 and 2 - timings/mileage?

Unsure to be honest - the costs stated on the two invoices are nothing like Insp2 prices. It states "please carry out additional items to INSP1 that apply to INSP11". That came to a total of £240 and included both sparks and filters. The previous was four figures, but included new tyres. That has everything on it.

Sounds like they've simply upgraded the I1 to an I2 instead.

The mileage discrepancy would be the drive to & from the dealer.

Was my thinking fella. Nice that I'm not missing any vital inspections, based on how acutely aware we/potential M buyers all are.

At least the previous owner cared about the car and the service.

Agreed chap.

Didn't I read somewhere that there was also a 'time / age' recommended service schedule?

i.e. My car has only done 26,800 miles and is showing as an oil service next (in 8k), but the car is 8yrs old this year and it was suggested it should have an inspection II service regardless of the mileage. It has had an oil service every year regardless + brake fluids etc, but its quite a jump to a service II

Minimum servicing by time (oil service, brake fluid, coolant) - every 2 years
Major servicing by mileage (Inspection 1 / Inspection 2) - every 10000-15000 miles.

So the dealer robbed him then

Not necessarily.

I think some owners want the satisfaction of having the garage thoroughly check over their car regardless as to whether it needs it.

Next month, I'm treating my car to an Insp 2 even though it is showing another 8k or so mileage until it needs it. It was last serviced in December 2013 which was only 4k miles ago.

Does the dashboard warning distinguish between inspection 1 & 2? Mine just says 10000 inspection

Now more information has been posted I would agree. With the information at the time and the way it was worded it sounded to me and PVR that the dealer had paid for an inspaection 1 and then again for an ispection 2, whereas it appears they charged him the difference between which is logical.

It's academic anyway, as it would only matter to a prospective purchaser or if the car had a warranty as most ask that it's serviced to manufacturer schedule.
