Hi guys,

I know this will have been asked before but struggling to find a definite answer...

What should the timings be for Insp 1 and 2? I appreciate it's mileage related - mine shows 13k miles left until Insp but I do 3k miles a year and have previously done oil each year, brake fluid every two...

Any suggestions much appreciated. Presume it being an M makes zero difference!

Ignore me, got it;

15k miles -- Oil service
30k miles -- Inspection 1
45k miles -- Oil service
60k miles -- Inspection 2
75k miles -- Oil service
90k miles -- Inspection 1

That is optimistic.

Inspection 1 is generally between 20 - 25k, Inspection 2 40-45k.

Although you'll be lucky if you actually reach those mileages as short trips will use more fuel.

The mileage is supposedly based on 500 gallons at 30mpg - so constant town driving at 20mpg may only get you 10,000 miles between services/inspections.

Which can only be a good thing & shows the car's service countdown system actually works as opposed to a car that needs a service every 15k but is anyones guess what that 15k has entailed :cry:

if the mileage is not done is this the pattern but every 2 years?

Mine is showing Insp. 2 in 7k miles and it's on 40k-ish now. General wisdom varies, but most seem to ensure there is an interim oil change every two years max if you're not hitting the mileage trigger.

in the coupe my history is:

oil service @7473 dated 18.6.2011
inspection 1 @ 14882 dated 8.6.2013

BMW have told me my next service with 18K on the clock is an inspection 2, its due now, is this correct?

Yes, they are. What does the service indicator say when you start the car ? Some people would do an interim oil change (2 years) and not reset the service indicator. But the next one in the schedule is an oil service. Only 18k Taz - low mileage minter :thumbsup:

Taz if you don't do the mileage you will only require an oil service. Make sure they don't reset the counter though.

Why BMW didn't build in the two year inspection/service warning on the computer as well? The brake fluid change indicator pops-up every two years as it should, it seems a silly oversight :idunno:

Thanks guys. In all honesty, the reason for this query was a concern when I was sieving through my service history. Something just didn't tally up (that horrible sickening feeling when you think you've missed something when buying from a pushy sales person)...

My booklet shows;

Predelivery
Running in - 1,342
Oil and MF - 12,150
Insp 1 - 24,291
Oil and MF - 36,600
Insp 2 - 49,192
Oil and MF - 53,930

However, the paper work didn't back the second to last entry up... it shows Insp 1 at 49,135...

Just called the BMW dealership and she said "oh yes, we had that car in twice, I remember it because the chap said he hadn't taken it out of the garage because he was too proud of the car...". :rofl: So in fact mine has had Insp 1 at 49,135 and Insp 2 a year later on 49,192!

Just had all the paper work sent over from the kind lady at Chandlers in Worthing, so all tallies up now!
