Ins2 costs?

Had a few quotes for Ins2 and brake fluid, rather surprisingly not a massive difference between indys and main dealer at £1100 - £1400, although the dealer did seem to struggle to get a price after starting at £1900..

This includes Differential oil, although one place said they could use the non BMW one which is the same spec but doesn't claim their special additive and is £100 cheapr! I'll stick with the proper stuff but interesting to hear.

Does this sound about right, I know things have gone up recently but I was hoping it was going to be 3 figures.

Thanks

Had a look around about a dozen 'local' BMW dealers (4 different franchises).

Strangely there were all within £50 of each other (£1125-£1175), and brake fluid was around £90-£100.

It's expensive, but about the same as I was paying 10 years ago :P

I went to Ross at RBM for my Inspection 2 and paid just over £700 inc VAT. But that was in April 2020 and I supplied the engine oil!

Somewhere around the £1,000 seems to be the going rate - anything less is a bonus. But more important for me is getting it done by a garage I know will do it right.

Rather strangely Specialist Cars called back this am.

£600 + VAT, not inc differential oil which apparently is separate.

Now I'm thinking this is too cheap :(

Way to cheap. I would ask them exactly what they are going to do for that price.

The prices people are being quoted seem excessive especially at £1000+
BMW dealers have always been expensive…I think it’s just some specialists catching up by raising their labour rates. Gone are the days when it was £50/hour and half the total cost of a dealer visit.

My local BMW specialist is only about 25% cheaper than BMW for inspections, etc. using genuine parts from BMW.

So what are the prices for your local dealers and specialists?

Just to update, but the quote was wrong. The lady wot does the phones was working remotely, and missed the valve clearances off (perhaps a non-M quote?). They called back and gave me the correct quote, and I asked him to see where the screenwash was leaking from whilst it was on the ramp, and an MOT.

All in still a very reasonable £940.

There is also an oil weep from the differential (I think) seal which he said he could do that with new oil and fit a new headlight washer. I think that must have been a verbal quote but it was circa £500 all in, which I gather includes over £100 of oil.

So, having done the ins and booked the rest, the wife has started using it and decided it is a bit heavy for regular use, so will be selling at after all :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

It's a decent price I suppose with non genuine parts, but why no diff or gearbox oil? Both should be changed for an inspection 2.
Also seems to be missing the 6 spark plug gaskets and 13 rocker cover grommets which if you were to buy genuine is about £200 these days and would be part of the service schedule at BMW.
Quite easy to see where the price difference comes between some specialists and BMW themselves I guess at the end of the day.
Still with the money saved you could buy the mrs some extra spinach?!

I’ve just picked up a 06 3.0si at 83k and taken it in for inspection 2. Clearly not an M, so cheaper.

Paid £439 at EMTEC BMW Indy in Salisbury. Ross at RBM was a fraction cheaper but further away for me.

Another Indy (Munich Motors quoted £540) and BMW Salisbury £661.
