INHERITED Z4

Good Morning, new here so if you could just bare with me!

I'm based in Bridgend South Wales and just acquired my dads 2004 2.5. it has a number of issues including:

EML illuminated, plugs recently changed, missing on one cylinder on start up clears once warm.
Heater blower working on low speed only, fuses ok, removed pollen filter to allow air through more efficiently.
Rear window demister not working, check wiring and fuse all good.
Has BMW upgraded stereo from new, amp in battery box u/s playing one speaker only.

Just looking on some advice from seasoned owners on how to proceed?

A model-specific code reader would be the first thing to buy, these cars have complex electrical systems! Many people like the Creator +410

Welcome aboard.
Your car is in transport mode.
Seek out Colb on here. He is in Newport and can reset it for you and also give the car a once over

Thank you found his profile, still trying to find my way round the site, couldn't find a way to contact colb!
Click on the 'members' tab at the top of the screen.
Click on 'c'. That will bring all members starting with a C. There are a lot!
Then click on the 'posts' word. That will put them in order of most posts.
Colb is the seventh one down from the top.
Click on his name and his profile will come up. You can then click on 'send private message'.
There may be an easier way but it works for me!

Regarding the amp in the boot, check it isn't damp in there. If it's died they are difficult to source at a decent price.

Colb can help with code reading for your misfire. It could be a dodgy coil, in which case it can be proved by moving it to a different cylinder and seeing if the fault moves. Could also be a spark plug. If you move the coil but the fault stays in the same place it points towards the plug.
Possibly also a leaky injector allowing the plug to get wet and take a moment to burn off.

For the EML, again a code reader will help, but in the meantime, follow the big intake pipe back from the air filter to where it enters the throttle body through a rubber section. On the top of that part is a smaller 'corrugated' pipe that goes to the idle control valve. These are prone to splitting, letting in unmetered air and messing up the mixture, which eventually puts on the light. Even if that is the case and you replace it, you will still need the fault resetting.

The amp has been wet at some point, and dried out, second hand ones on line, if you can find, them are around £500 for this particular model, so I guess it means a new head unit?
Fitted a set of new spark plugs, what a price on those little beauties! I'll check out your other pointers, thanks again, glad that I found this forum!

It will prove an invaluable resource for you I'm sure.
Unlike fb, there are very few numpties.
Good chance if you ask for information or assistance you will get a sensible answer.
There are also a few people with access to decent secondhand spares. In fact you are not only close to [ref]Colb[/ref], but [ref]Umfaan[/ref] is nearby (Miskin) with loads of spare parts, and should you need the roof sorting then it's a quick run to Bristol to see [ref]Number5[/ref].

Hi Couchy Boy, sent you a PM with details of the Zedshed Cymru Whats App Group and contact details so we can sort your Transport Mode and EML.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It looks like you've found a solution to most of your issues. There are two stereo upgrades, S676 and S677 so you need to be sure which option your car has if you want to replace the amp. Here's a link to one for sale for the top of the range S677 setup:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=150121

You can understand why they moved the amp from the swimming pool to the firewall in later models though.

And welcome aboard
