Infuriating bl00dy hardtop !!

ok, so got my hardtop last week, first probelm was that i noticed on one side at rear it was touching the bodywork, after getting some advice from people on here (thanks again) i adjusted one side fairly easily and that seemed to stop the knocking noise, however......now there is an even worse rattle from front of roof, but and wait for it.....only when the windows are down !!!!!

Anybody else had a similar problem, or know how to remedy this, anybody who comes up with an answer to sort this problem can take this thread as legal evidence of me owing you a pint or 3......

most roadster owners want a coupe really, when you switch you can join the exclusive coupe club

Frank Im feeling your pain :( I drove from Liverpool to Glasgow to buy a hardtop, it looked great on the car but could I hell get the thing to sit right! Sold it after a month to a fellow forum member whom had no bother! I concluded It may of been my passenger door sitting a little higher than my driver! I concluded this after I sold it :headbang:

Switch to E89 instead.
Just does'nt work for me, having seen the stuff we managed to cram into the boot at the weekend and still lower the roof I will stick the original and best version of the Z4 the E85 until the wheels fall off.
Although I will confess to having a Hardtop, only because the Zed lives outside and can stand idle for up to 12 weeks at time and I don't think even BMWs best fabric roof is up to that abuse during the winter.
Never had any probs with mine, other than it is leaving some marks on the small panel infront of the boot lid and that is despite ensuring that the seal is clean before fitting it, the Zed is definately a bit quieter with it fitted.

There you go, that's much better :P

well thats sounds very much like its not tsecured properly at the front because windows up would cause upward pressure on the h/top and prevent it rattling. Have you tightened the Allen bolt fully at the front?

not touched the front since the guy i bought it from put it on, is it just a case of turning the bolt tighter then, or is it same as the rear 2 points, where its either open or closed, but you then have the lower bolt for height adjustment ?

The front is just the one lock in the middle, the sides lock too so thats 3 locking points..

I would take it off. and put it back on again.. making sure before you tighten it all down there is a 5mm even gap all round

you can adjust the 'gap' using the side locking mechanisms..

if that is all fine, and it still rattles.. god help you

p.s. mine sits fine and is lovely, im going to put it on today infact just cleaning the hood in preperation for a winter in storage.
