Incoming - Z4MC

Well with the 330i sold within 24 hours of going on Pistonheads the weekend before last, the hunt was on to get an offer accepted on one of the Z4MCs that I had seen recently. And so today I picked up this lovely late 2006 Z4MC in silver grey with red. Photo (not my best effort) was taken at the dealership, where it was waiting for me.

I must say I am very impressed with how comfortable it is, because the first thing I had to do was jump in and drive the 65 miles to work. But the sun was out, the windows were open and all was good with the world :D. Then I got followed briefly by an original M Coupe in yellow on an X Plate - looked fab and very fitting I thought. I then saw another one tonight in Guildford high street - and I thought they were rare.

As for my car, well it's really very light on spec having PDC, Logic 7 and errr, that's it. I specifically didn't want Sat Nav (I know - crazy, eh?) but beyond that I wasn't too fussed as long as the colour worked for me. In hindsight I wish it had bluetooth, as currently I have two buttons on the steering wheel that I'll never use.. It drove the nicest of the five I saw, and had by far the best condition paint. It has only done 2k miles in the last year too, which seems a dreadful waste.

Looking forward to coming along to a meet soon

Cheers

Oh how this pains me right now - same colour combo as mine. Here I am sat on the far side of the earth with my own car keys in my pocket but the the MC 6000 miles away!!!

You might like it now but just wait about a month and it will be like an addiction.

Nice car, and welcome to the forum. We seem to be getting a good percentage of the UK Coupes as forum members.

You're not that far away from the Kent meet at the end of this month....

Very nice car and maybe I'll see you about as I'm not too far from you. As for the satnav I was the same, deliberately avoided it

Very nice. Im getting more desperate for one of these to replace my 3.0i roadster. Great colour choice as well.

Looks nice ! Colour looks good ....

I wouldn't worry about the Sat Nav - I looked at three Roadsters, two with Sat Nav but bought the one without it as it was the best of the three. Condition is more important than extras and the one I bought was mint and unmarked with a low mileage .... the previous owner on mine had only done about 800 miles in the year !

Some say the Sat Nav doesn't work that well - some say it's OK ... but I took the view I was only going to use it every now and then + have a Tom Tom anyway ! Condition was above extras on my shopping list when I looked for a Z4M Roadster.

Go out and enjoy that engine - that is the biggest selling point, not the extras :D

Surprised you didn't have the roof down then?

Ahhhh......sorry, seems I owe you one of these instead - :poke: :ROFL2:

Nice car though! Welcome!

Nice one and welcome

With hindsight I should have gone for a lower spec car and then installed my own sat Nav and hifi system. The sat Nav is poor anyway and the DSP hifi doesn't sound very good either.

Nice, welcome and congrats...and enjoy :).

I also went for a minimal option car also. Satnav was one thing especially that I didn`t want, it ruins the look of the dash for me, more to go wrong, will be costly to replace if it fails, more weight :).

Fantastic car!

Out of interest, how was 944 ownership?

Thanks all for the comments. I've spent some time going round the car today getting rid of all the tell tale wax in the nooks and crannies. Plus I've removed the numberplate plinths and dealer stickers from the dealer I bought it from. They weren't the original supplying dealer and I'm no fan of them using my car for advertising. Found the previous owner's Tom Tom instructions too, tucket in the back of the passenger seat. Normally it's a £1 coin you find.

PawnSacrifice, 944 ownership was great fun. I had a late (1991) S2 in black with the bridge spoiler. I bought it for £3850, drove it for 20 months, putting 10k miles on and then sold it for £3550, so it didn't depreciate much. It was my second car, and I used for track days and weekend use as a change from the 330i, which I was doing about 400 miles a week in at the time. In hindsight, although it wasn't a bad example, I should have bought the best I could afford as in that 20 months I spent £5k getting it up to scratch. I hadn't realised before then what a fussy bugger I am so I went round replacing bits of missing trim, getting some rust dealt with, fitting new discs, pads, ARBs and dampers. It went, handled and stopped much better after all that, but I only every managed 6 track days due to work and personal commitments. Here's a photo from a Bedford track day

I realised then that I liked the BMW experience of my 330i, but the shape and "occasion" of the 944, hence the move to a Z4MC. Ironically the 944 came with a battery powered compressor in the boot too, albeit a space saver tyre compressed down rather than a can of gloop.
