In dash pop up navi

Hello. I am new to this forum and have a question to ask all...

Has anyone ever thought of modifying an existing pop up navi unit to work in the 2004 Z-4 dash???
Here is my thought. A pop up navigation unit from say....a Volvo S80. modify the unit so that only the OEM Volvo lift mechanism remains. install within the unit an aftermarket unit such as a Magellan, or Garmin, or even Tom Tom. install the unit into the center of the dash above the air vents. in theory it may work but there are a few questions.
1- Is there enough room behind the air vent duct?
2- could this physically be done?
3- Am I completely nuts?

Any input will be most appreciated.

This is the unit I saw on E-bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-InDas...-09-/231461491657?hash=item35e42e13c9&vxp=mtr

I hope this actually works.......
Thank you all.

If you have to ask the first 2 questions, the answer is probably 3...

...pop out the vent, start to measure, and ask the ebay seller how deep the monitor is.

But I think the outcome will be ugly; chances are slim that the bezel lines up exactly to the curvature of the dash.

Getting the motorunit to work might be challenging too. It's probably not as simple as putting 12v on some leads; it's probably logic controlled or so.

It's been done, but only with a Z4 nav monitor casing. Danmiddle2 and sk93 have both done it if you do a search.
