I bought a Muvi Veho Mini DV camcorder 5 weeks ago, mainly for use on the mountain-bike but I also might give it a try in the Z4 too if I can figure out a mount. Shouldn't be hard as I bought the extreme sports kit mount pack and it comes with loads of attachements. Best part is the camera is only £55...

Resolution is pretty good, sound is surprisingly good IMO, best part is the size of the camera:

As far as I can see there are two options re mounting in car

1) A suction mount to the windscreen
2) A suction mount to the dash (which could leave a mark)

And both these could be vetoed once I get to the track :x

Any ideas? Any pictures of stuff that people have that has worked and been allowed and not caused marks afterwards?

The rule at Nurburgring is unambiguous: no photography of any kind is permitted on the track for Joe Citizen. That said, lots of people do it, you just have to be creative. Mind you, if you are caught, you're fined and banned.

The Hero Wide measures 2 1/2 X 1 1/2 X 2 1/2 inches and weighs a few ounces. I was thinking that it could be held in place on the sun visor with a couple of rubber bands. Out of sight of nosey types. Just flip it down as you start. Have to look into that.

That idea mightactually work. The one I've got above might just be right for that too seeing as it's tiny and weighs only 55g (I think). It's promoted/sold as a spy camera too, spy on what I don't know (I'd rather not know TBH).

I've just rang ClubMSV who are running the track day to check on cameras/mounts etc and as expected they said suction mounts weren't allowed. So I was wondering where I could securely mount the camera inside the car and the only place I could think of was the passenger side seatbelt holder. Do you think this would be feasible?

I have used the Hague suction mount on many a road trip to Europe and it mounts to any camera with the screw type tripod fixing in the base. Very secure, never had a failure and is very stable. Used from Autobahn 150mph plus to the Stelvio and Fluela passes., Recommended. Can be fixed in or out but I use it inside the screen and as long as you give the screen a quick clean prior to setting off its great (unless you have heated screen elements then it can be a nuisance).

I suspect a little over budget, but this is obviously very discrete and you get the GPS speed data to go with

The YouTube video clip is around the 3/4 th post.

Thought this was a decent video shot with logitech webcam (9000 pro). I'm leaning towards one of these, and maybe try and fasten it to the sun visor or mirror. Must admit I like the tune too :D

Another option maybe the MiniDV MD-80s (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/md80s-peanut-sports-camera.htm)

After quite a bit of study I think I've learned a few things (could easily be wrong though) but still have a few questions...

640p is normal quality and 720p is HD quality - do I need HD quality to watch this on Youtube or a normal TV?
Is it better to have a large built in memory or a card slot?

I've sort of narrowed it down to 4 cameras

HD] Creative Vado or Kodak ZX1
Normal] Veho VCC-003 or then MD80s

The last two named are smaller, lighter and come with better mounting options so I'm leaning that way at the moment, and I'm thinking of attaching them to the sun visor with some sort of velcro attachment.

Thanks for any help :D
