In-between change of oil at my indy: Service Booklet?

Hi guys,
I got one question for the community.
My M has now covered 82000 km. Since it was new, it had the usual services done at BMW dealerships.
The first at around 2000 km, then around 18000, 36000, 53000 and 72000.
This is everything you can read from the Service Booklet. At 36000 an Inspection 1 and the one at 72000 was an Inspection 2.
In between, every 10000 km (6000 miles) I changed the engine oil myself and never wrote anything about it.
Since I moved, I don't have the tools anymore to do the job myself, so I went to my indy (I know him since quite a while).
He changed the engine oil and filter and the gearbox oil, using BMW original parts.
He asked me if he should make an entry in the Booklet. This would be the first entry from an independent garage.
Is it important for the value of the car that every entry in the Booklet comes from an official BMW dealership?
The next scheduled one (in 10000 km) will be done at a BMW dealership. It will be a normal Oil Service.

Thank you a lot for sharing your opinion on the matter!
Carlo

Providing the scheduled services are done at a BMW dealership, then having interim oil changes by an independent garage would only be a plus if i were looking for a car. Shows it has been more than looked after.

The more stamps the better IMO , providing none are Kwikfit
If a potential buyer disregards a car because it has extra service work recorded but not by BMW then that's their loss , as above i would interpret it as a owner taking extra care esoecially if owned a long period

I would just let the BMW dealership stamp the book at the scheduled service intervals for oil & inspections so the service book is pure BMW but keep the bills/invoices from any additional interim oil changes so that you can show them to any prospective buyer

This is what I would do if keeping the main services with BMW.

Thank you a lot for all your answers!

I was thinking about keeping the invoice and not having him stamp the booklet, to keep it BMW-only...
But in the end, what harm does that stamp make? If I'm going to show the invoice(s) to the potential buyer anyway!
The main services are free of charge (apart from the oil) here in Switzerland, for the first 10 years of the car.
These will be up in a short while (a little longer than one year) and I'm not sure I want the people from the BMW dealership to tamper with my car any longer... They proved quite often not to be that good at what they do.
I'm very confused now

2 against 2 :P Still don't know what to do!

I'd keep receipts only. If the buyer is happy with the book, say no more, but if they are a petrol head and concerned or won't be worried, then show them.

You'll need to keep the separate when you had over paperwork though.

I didn't get mine stamped when I had an interim oil change. Though I didn't get a receipt either as it was done for cash... Next time I'll get a receipt though.

I'd keep the service book for the BMW stamps and leave a nice stack of receipts (containing the date work was done, vehicle mileage, and reg) from an indy with the service book.

If I was buying a Z4 again the last thing I would be interested in would be BMW stamps in the service book.

My own fair hand has signed off two interim oil changes now. If that puts anybody off they don't deserve a well looked after car!

I don't have the book stamped as it doesn't have a service that you can tick, oil, Ins 1/2. An oil change isn't an oil service, and the Indy I used said he wouldn't tick an oil service u less he did everything. I think this is the correct way to do it.

Keep the book updated with proper services and keep any other paperwork for oil changes, alignments etc

An oil service is:

Change oil and oil filter.
Reset SI (I obviously don't do this every 7 or 8k!).
Change a/c micro filter.
Check brake pads, clean recess and check discs, grease alloy centring surfaces.
Bed down handbrake and check operation.

I don't always grease the wheels as they come off relatively regularly and only adjust handbrake when it needs it.

My independent mechanic did all of that, apart from resetting the Service Interval... and I'm not so sure about the handbrake check. The brakes were checked and the micro filter changed, along with a cleaning of the whole system.

Now I can't really decide if he should tick that box or not!

If it's an interim change then I wouldn't reset the indicator. As for the handbrake, you'll know if it needs adjusting or not.

I do this too for interim changes. If it were me buying it, I'd be encouraged.

If someone doesn't like it then they clearly don't deserve to own it. :p

As per what Scooba Steve said services contain a number of 'checks' which seem to bump up the price disproportionately.

I get my local to do just what I want which is usually all the actual 'work' in the service for that point. For example my version of an inspection 2 is oil change, air/oil/cabin filters replaced, change spark plugs and ask them to tell me if they see anything when poking around. £50 labour + parts bought privately. Simples.

If you're mechanically sympathetic you should notice things that need changing just by driving it anyway.

In the end I chose not to let him stamp the booklet. He didn't have a problem with that and understood immediately that it was because of a future possible sale. Not that I want to sell it ;P

I could never really justify the price of an Inspection 2... They carried it out free of charge, so i let them do it, but I keep asking myself what will I do as soon as the Free Scheduled Maintenance Program runs out!
