Unfortunately nothing as profound as Z4Rick's moving post from the other day, more a tale of not seeing the wood for the trees. I was out yesterday in what turned into a North London blizzard (well it was the most snow we've had all year) when the dreaded 'Bongggg' sounded, iDrive indicated Right Rear Brake Light failure. Looking at the light assembly I can see that there is a crack at the bottom where the clear plastic is coming away from the casing and my thoughts immediately turned to a replacement light assembly and the struggles that some have gone through to sort this problem out. The car is 4 and a bit years old, but it is an AUC and I've only had it a couple of months, so hopefully I can get it done under warranty as I don't really want to pay the thick end of £500 to get it fixed. I called the dealership I bought it from, and left a message with the service department. I had to take some stuff to the tip today, it's enclosed and pretty dark, and I can see that I certainly have a brake light on the right hand side, so with a little contortion and by wedging an atlas (old habits die hard...) against the pedal I can see that it's only a bulb that's failed. New bulb, all appears to be good and the computer is happy again.
Oops, will probably be eating a bit of humble pie on Tuesday when I speak to the service department...
I may take it in anyway and see if they will do anything as the unit is certainly splitting and there is corrosion and mould under the clear plastic lens.
Regards, Dave
