I'm sceptical...

Has anyone used http://www.chipsaway.co.uk/services/repair-video ? I've got a few stone chips I'd like to be touched up but I was always under the assumption you had to respray the whole panel else you would see a patch.

Also, can anyone recommend a small dent repair specialist in East Anglia? I have a 3mm dink on the rear wing. :x

Cheers

I used Chipsaway a couple of years ago to repair a 6" vandal scratch in an Audi A6 I had. They had to respray the whole rear panel (3 month old car!) and the result was an orange peel effect in an obviously different colour! They cam back to try again, but could not correct it. Ended up taking it to a proper repair centre who charged me £350 (Chipsaway had been £150). In the end Chipsaway admitted their failure and paid for the full £350 repair.

Avoid them, they're one-man franchised incompetent people!

revesby37, That's what I was worried about! Thanks for the heads up. At least they paid for the respray.

That's a bit unfair. They are a franchise operation, but like any business you only get as good as the local operator. We moan about some BMW dealers and praise others. Most BMW dealers are a franchise too. That doesn't mean one crap one equals all dealers are crap. A few dealerships use chips away, ding master etc to do the minor repairs on their AUC stock and get bloody good results

Stuart Truman, I agree to an extent. I had a horrendous experience with auto glass a few years back. 2nd guy from the same company came out and did a much better job. Though I think when you are repairing a scratch it's generally good practice to respray the entire panel. The video demo on the website looks great, but you can never be 100% sure until you see in person. I'm just not so keen on someone sanding down 1 section of a panel and attempting to respray metallic paint no matter how skilled they are. I simply wondered if my assumption was wrong. Anyone else with any experiences?

Mrs A had a long score in the sill of her 206 a few years back. Chips away made it vanish. Great job

Yes, but the point is that they're so variable you don't know whether you'll get a great job or a disaster (like me). A risk I wouldn't take again. Maybe you could go on personal recommendation, and maybe it depends on how much work you need doing.

Recommendations are the best approach when it comes to paint repairs, as mentioned, with franchise dealerships, you're likely get a fair degree of variation based on skill and experience.

A lot of the good detailing and paint correction specialists will also tackle stone chips as part of a detailing, plus that way you'll also get a full paint correction.

Alternatively, if you're up for some DIY then you could have a go yourself, here's a good write up on DW

One of my friends is a smart repair man..

His customers include lambo,Bentley and Porsche in Wilmslow. Some of the work he does is outstanding and really is "invisible"...

If he comes out to you he tells you what the outcome will be,sometimes a repair/certain colours just cannot be hidden..

I've got a a number of clients in the motor trade... one in particular swears by their local Chipsaway guy, who preps a lot of cars for them...

Hi all- I had Chipsaway to relair a scuffed front bumper- I was also very sceptical at the time but I have to say the guy who came to do mine (Colchester area) made a fantastic job- its now 6 months down the line and the finish is just as for the rest of the car. I guess being a franchise you depend upon the expertise of the particular person you get - but mine was very good!
