Ignition live

Just ordered a dash cam (Roadhawk) with the hard wire install kit. I'm planning on putting it behind my rear view mirror.

I've had a search but can't find much information, is there an ignition live I can install it on in the rear view mirror?

If you have self dimming mirrors then maybe there will be a live knocking about for that?

in the autodimming mirrors the ignition controlled live wire was purple. I was going hardwire my road angel using it and run the cable down the A pillars.

@Aquazi nice one thanks!

Yes I'll post installed photos with it sure! Pretty much everyone I know who has had a recent insurance claim seems to have been screwed over from lack of evidence. The whole kit costs ~£200 but I think it's worth it and could save me a lot more money than that if someone else crashes into me!

Even better you can use this guide:

No splicing just stick a pin in the pack of a connector!

I quite fancy fitting a in car camera to mine too... but i'd want to be able to set it to record while it isnt started - after having people drive into my parked car on 2 separate occasions now.. causing damage and driving off.

I've thought about a Roadhawk but I'm not sure about leaving it when parking with the roof down

I wonder if anyone has tried the waterproof 'Roadhawk Ride' intended for bikes/motorbikes and mounted it behind the kidneys?

But what happens if you have a front end collision? The camera probably wont survive :(

Good point, but I guess that, if the collision is that bad, the camera is the least of your worries :cry:

For general use, hooning videos, minor collisions etc. I think it would work fine - Best thing overall would be if you could get one of the endoscope-type flexible fibre-optic extension lenses so that the camera could be mounted by the bulkhead and you could route the camera lens to wherever you wanted

Do people leave it parked with roof down? I'd never do that! Only takes 3 seconds to put it up/down.
