Hi guys,

I've attempted using voice command in my car and it doesn't seem to recognise anything I say. I've tried commands such as "navigation", "radio", "telephone", but nothing works. Am I doing something wrong or is there a fault with my iDrive?

all idrive have basic Voice recognition (but it is rubbish) i.e you can laboriously save contacts and numbers etc.
There is a voice command option, which offers much greate voice command interaction, so i may be you only have the fist "standard" voice control, not the upgraded voice command option.

that may explain why you are having limited sucess.
If you have the Full voice setup, then it may not be working... you will need to check the options fitted to the car on the original build sheet to confirm if you have the voice option fitted

Thanks moonshine,

So just because I have the voice command button on the steering it doesn't mean I have the voice command option? If that's the case it's weird that the car asks for a command when I press the button. Very silly indeed.
So what would be part of the 'basic' voice recognition?

I had this with my Z, even took it into the dealership a week ago saying the system was broke.

Moonshine is right, my car is only fitted with the basic system which can only save phonebook names and call them.....its rubbish.

On my old mondeo the voice control did everything, from radio to the climate control so this is what i expected on the Z. Seems you need another option box ticked when specced to enable the full command system

Yeah. Doubtful I would use it much if I had it. Just wasn't sure whether mine's faulty or not. I'm very pedantic about something being faulty even if it's something I wouldn't use. :) Gets on my nerves bigtime.

I have it but never used after the first couple of attempts didn't work.
Much easier to twirl the shiny wheel, and get it right every time. :)
