idrive screen question

Hi guys

Please don't think me stupid but how do I close the sat nav screen if I don't want to use it as I have only just got the car and due to being stressed out with an extension that has gone on far too long I just haven't had time to read the booklet, I drove home in the dark the other night and the screen automatically pops up so the bright daylight colours were a bit distracting.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

On the keypad next to the idrive rotating controller, there is a button marked 'menu' or 'options' - when you click it there is a close screen item to select.

If you like the screen closed a lot, best to program it to one of the multifunction buttons on the radio (I use button 8 for that) - time to start reading the manual :)

Matt

Thanks a lot Matt and yes I need to read that manual but things are hectic at present but hopefully not for much longer :)

I used to reprogramme one of my numbered keys to close it too

Otherwise push drive controller fully to the right and close it there

Also change to auto night time settings when it gets dark

That's interesting... my car has never had the auto night time thing... you can choose to associate a key to night/day mode, which I've done, but it doesn't automatically switch dependent on time or daylight like the new F series cars do.

+1 I don't have this option, so just programmed one of the keys to switch night/day modes as well.

I must be thinking of my SLK then, as that does that....but then again not been in a car for weeks!!!!!

I've always thought it was odd that it didn't go to night time mode when the headlights came on ?

Sorry what I meant to say was E89 full lights do stay on in bright morning sunshine. In fact lots of Xenons do.... No idea why

Not just xenons !
It's something to do with the light sensor I'm told. Low winter sun can often switch the headlights on.

How do you reprogram a button to do that?

I would read the manual but that would be cheating!

Also is the night mode you are talkling about. is that just the one for the sat nav or is there another one that alters the brightness of the whole screen?

As soon as you've got the controller on the area you want to use, ie a radio station just press down and hold a number.

In terms of night screen no it's just darkens the map. I used to use the night map during the day too, liked more classy in my opinion

Thanks. I'll have a play later.

I leave my nav in night mode too. Prefer the colour scheme.
