iDrive & Low Battery

I've been transferring routes and music into the sat nav via USB and BMW online
Unless I have the engine running the flip up screen "bongs" says Warning Low Battery and closes.
I've stuck the main battery on charge in the boot but it has made no difference.
The car starts (or has down up to now) without hesitation which makes me wonder:
- Is there an auxiliary rechargeable power source specifically for the iDrive?

Something else which has also struck me is that you can't seemingly turn the radio/cd/source "off"
If the ignition is on so is the audio system. The conventional radio push on/off button merely mutes the speakers.
None of this seems right but is probably me being ultra thick now that I've passed 21 (and a bit more)

Does any of this make sense or ring any bells (or bongs) with anybody?

Cheers
Terry

Same as on my old E92.

No separate power source for the idrive
There is no "off" function

My car used to complain if I left it too long between drives or sat with the ignition on for too long.
Maybe you need a new battery?

Thanks Steve.
I'm suspecting the battery.
The Zed hasn't had much use recently but even after 200 miles today was warning of "low battery" when we stopped and I went to reprogramme the satnav.
Daft thing is there seems to be plenty of umph to start the engine but not to power the auxiliary stuff.
