The baseball knock was a bit of a 'tongue in cheek'
I taught with a guy (Sam Dempster) who was heavy into baseball and even scouted for the NY Yankees and Minnesota Twins.
He coached the Canadian National Junior Team (that beat Cuba) and from there he went on to run summer baseball camps in Britain and Germany.
Well next he got offered a developmental coaching opportunity with the British Olympic Team ..
Unfortunately Men's Baseball was deleted from this years Olympics, and I haven't heard what he is up to now.
Too bad cause I was looking forward to seeing how the British Team would have done .
Now with all the overseas media attention on the World Cup and Euro Cup, Soccer has garnered alot of attention over here.
Those tournaments were very well received - especially by the roadside flag sellers and ethnic bars.
Actually my daughter has somehow become a huge fan of Tottenham Hotsur and through the magic of Ebay I have been able to pic up some Spurs merch for her for Christmas.
By another curiousity of fate, another fellow teacher is the son of a one time Spur ..Les Medley (for some of you very oldtimers here )
Strange how one time national sports are making an impact around the globe..
