I was really disappointed with it. As a standalone sci-fi movie it was ok but as a "prequel" to Alien and following all the hype I thought it was terrible. Rotten characters you never really engage with, ridiculous potholes, and a dull, predictable story. :thumbsdown:

Only downside was we seemed to be in a cinema packed with depressed farts with no sense of humour between them. I hate laughing out loud then realising the rest of the room is in silence

... Especially when it cost £34 for me, the Mrs and Wee Bing to watch it in 3D... AND we snuck in our own food and drink
Unbelievably pricey. You can get most movies on Sky Box Office at the same-ish price as Blockbuster a couple or 3 months after cinema release - the only thing I don't have is a 3D TV, but it's almost a tenth of the price...
Remember when as a teenager i saw the Life of Brian when it was first on at the cinema.

Are you serious. It was awesome. Not like the leave your brain at home crap Aliens was. Praying for a sequel. You got to remember it is a reboot, not a prequel. It is a different story line/time. I though it was epic, though provoking, the idea we were created as a lesser species as the engineers, as hosts for a WMD for an unknown reason.

I have just watched it after all negative feedback received. I have to agree that a hot dog and coke for £7.50 was very scary (I had lunch before I went
), but the movie was boring when comparing with all other alien movies 
. But at least it explained Space Jockey (or Engineers) from Alien.lacroupade

But I guess a lot depends on whether you're a sci-fi buff or a horror fan; Alien tried to straddle both and I don't think you always can. I actually found the Alien films a bit boring because of the horror genre (I hate horror films unless they were made by Hammer and have lots of exposed cleavage LOL)...in fact the best thing about the first Alien film was Sigourney Weaver in her white pants at the end....

?Watched it today in 3D and thought it was brilliant.
Could have been amazing if it had been filmed in the same dark, dingy kind of way that the first 3 were.
Instead it was all shiney hollywood and no grit.
Also can someone please tell tinseltown that if your going to do a prequel try not to make the technology far more advanced than the later films as it just makes NO sense at all.

Truly awful film
Laughable script
Poor character development
Obvious plot twists
And worst of all. . . If you have a character who is in his old age, cast an established older actor. Do not cast a 30 something and make him up to look old, ask him to walk slowly with a limp and a hunch, and put on a tired gravely voice- it just looks stupid. Honestly the film is that bad.
What I don't understand is how someone who clearly has such great talent and vision (gladiator, alien, blade runner etc) knows how to make a good film, so how can he get it so wrong?

Right, this post has really appealed to the geek in me! I saw Prometheus a few weeks ago before watching any reviews etc and I hated it!
The film has switched genres from a creepy space horror to a theological adventure movie. The film is not actually set on the same planet as Alien, even though it suggests that it is, as a huge alien fan I didn't realise that this was the case until explained by Ridley Scott in an interview, so that explains inconsistencies with the original films.
The casting of Guy Pearce as Wayland is because there are scenes of the young Wayland that were cut from the film. Suggestions are that there will be a vastly extended directors cut on DVD/Blu ray and/or the at least one other movie has already been filmed and will likely be released in October (the date is hinted at the end of the credits and there are some new vitals of young Wayland doing the rounds on t'internet).
The problem for me is you shouldn't need to hunt around for exposition and bonus material to explain and improve a movie, it should all be there in the first place, especially at the price of a ticket!

I was a young teenager when I watched the first Alien film, it was a truly scary film, very cleaver with it, well acted and brilliantly directed. The second film, was in some ways better, but not as scary because once you have witnessed the chest exploding awesomeness its never the same afterwards and so it played on different strengths.
Prometheus for me was good, it could have been much better though and this was down to the editing of the film, they missed certain aspects out which should have been there or we're not explained efectively. What were the engineers running from, what killed them and stacked their bodies against a wall, why did they have big holes in them, what caused the life sign detector to activate at the end of the tunnel, was it the same thing that killed the engineers? Then there is the aliens, we have little worms that get bigger because of the life giving fluid, however if you drink it something else gets created and this is where I'm really confused, but in the end we got an Alien.....okay, what was the point of that, was it a bad batch of the black fluid that caused it all to go pear shaped or was it a weapon designed to ultimately create the alien which then killed all the engineers which would explain some.
What I did really like, Michael Fassbender, he played the logical and emotionless android brilliantly, the cinema-photography was beautiful, the concept of how life on our planet started was good and the operation scene was pretty gruesome but well played.
As for why the ship is more technological than the ship that came after in Alien, well one was a cargo ship, why would they need advanced state of the art equipment on a cargo ship, they wouldn't and the other was an exploration vessel where they really would.
