I remembered today why i paid a load of money for the 35i

Having owned this 35i for not quite 2 weeks i have been trying to drive it as often as i could to understand the car and familiarise myself with the driving dynamics etc. After having owned the previous model for 8 years, i need to understand this car :D

Today i had an opportunity to take the Z4 and not the X5 to my work location. I'm doing a 3 day event for Vauxhall providing my in-car camera systems to their press track cars (each jurno gets to take a recording of themselves at the wheel away with them on the day).

You might be asking "so what"..... and I don't blame you one bit!

Well the "so what" is this. The event is at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire, again "so what" I hear you exclaim!

Rockingham has 2 very long, very tall tunnels that access the pits and in-field area that you have to drive through.....

So, could i resist an empty, one way, and remote tunnel?............could I boll**ks.

Procedure:
1. stop
2. place car is sports plus
3. select 1st gear
4. mash the loud pedal in to the carpet
5. launch forward with a chirp from the tyres and get ready to pull 2nd gear.
6. get propelled through the tunnel ilke being fired from a large bore cannon!
7. listen to the NOISE....... it was EPIC and i don't say that lightly. It was a cacophony of sound, which got all the better when the 2nd gear bangs home with the resulting Whhaaarpp when the DCT does its thing from the exhaust.
I thought that my Miltek was a great exhaust, but this one is as good, if not better.

I DO remember why i bough this car, it just makes me SMILE with the noise it makes at full chat.

one very happy

The best sound is produced for about 1 minute after startup. No idea why but lord it's loud at WOT. After the first minute or so it's not quite so awesome..

redline in in the gears in a tunnel and you won't say that LOL

I'll have to make a video with sound!

Memories of the Swiss trip Dario, with "that" tunnel? :)

they were great times Paul!

so many tunnels to choose from, but that small one in to italy was probably the best!

Nobody knows the sound, the cackle and pop, unless you have one

I've had this car 2 years.. I've done the famous Manchester airport tunnels (without crashing into walls like some footballer I could mention). Trust me when I say that the first minute after you start the car is special sound wise. After that it's still good but not quite the same. There's a dct overrun which if you let off the throttle at dct gear switch makes THE loudest crack noise.

Totally agree. This is the first car I've owned where I'm not looking for an aftermarket exhaust. BMW did a great job on the 35i for a production car.

Fair enough, I'm only a mere 20i owner, but I can imagine....

If the 35i sounds that good the 35is must be truly awesome with sports exhaust, (+10db) might even try to get a test drive in one just to hear the sound !!!!
