I just replaced the o ring on the coolant sensor e85 :)

Just while it is fresh in my mind I thought I would quickly summarise how quick and easy it was to change it once I figured out the right technique...
Also thank you to the forum members for your help as if it wasn't for you I would have had to have replaced the whole pipe and had no idea this part leaked!

Anyway without removing anything in the engine bay all I did was firstly pressed the metal clip that is on the sensor in as this just seems to be a little spring loaded clip that once pressed in allows the electrical cable plug to slide off the sensor.
Once this was off the next bit was impossible until I realised if I used my left hand and faced away from it I could get my arm and hand in from an angle that then allowed me easy access to the plug to easily press the two plastic clips that hold it in the housing. Once these are pressed in it pulls out easily but hold on to it tight or it will fall into the engine bay and youl will have to fish it out...or take the trays off underneath.
For a few seconds after coolant will pour out but not a lot in my case and then I took the old o-ring off and slid the new one on. (Make sure the coolant is cold so give it time after driving)
Once it was back on I carefully reversed the steps above and pushed the sensor back into the housing and then you have to press it in hard to get it to clip back into place. Then once that is back in the easy bit is just pushing the electrical point back onto the sensor and you are done ✅

In all honesty it took me about an hour to figure out how to get to it and how to undo the clips etc without removing anything in the way but once I realised how to do it the actual job start to finish was about 5 minutes!

Again thank you to the members who stopped me having to buy a whole new radiator hose ☺️

That's a result!
Far easier than changing the hose......................... assuming it does indeed cure the leak.
Glad we could save you some time and money.

Tbh, after all the help I've had on the forum, it was well past time that I could give instead of take.

Haha yes you saved me a hell of a lot of trouble! And I took it for a spirited drive this afternoon and then felt and it's dry as a bone under the sensor! No leak anywhere! I'm so glad I didn't have to get a garage to do it ☺️

And the satisfaction of fixing the car yourself. Always a warm feeling.

I did this recently.

I didn't know the o-ring was replaceable (it's not listed on RealOEM) so I got a new sensor for £15.

Access is good with the plastic trim at the front of the engine removed, even easier with the fan out (a bolt a couple of clips).

Hi,
Yes I was thinking I would have to take all this off but luckily it was much simpler than I anticipated :) And I had no idea either that you could buy the O-ring :)

Haha definitely, I am not very handy so it was more shock followed by disbelief then doubt before the warm feeling arrived
