I havent been on here long but could you give 5 minuets to read this

A friend of mine and fellow car nut has been told he has terminal cancer. He beat it once but it has come back again only this time he,s been told its terminal, But there is a chance.
If you could spare 5 minuets of your time to read his page.
He,s ex army so i if the time had come he would have put his life on the line for people like me and you.
Its not something i would do normaly but he has too young kids to think of.

The system is fucked! NHS should be there to provide treatment and not be tied up in bureaucracy. I'm just about to take up private treatment myself because the NHS won't fund what I need, nothing life threatening like this case but still stupid. I really hope he can get the target to get on the trial that has a chance to hopefully save his life and possibly make a small change to the system
 
Because the NHS and the Charities only have a finite amount of money they have to prioritise where they believe the biggest difference will be made, though I completely agree over bureaucracy, it's the blight on any large organisation.

However I love this new age where practically anyone in the western world can tell world through the www of their story and plight, raising money directly and TBH I would rather give the money directly to the people I believe in, than some large bureaucratic charity.
 
You alway here on the the news how much the NHS is in debt. Yet if you work for the NHS and go off on the sick you you get 6 months full pay.
Its the same for any goverment run departments, The brain baffles at how many people must take avantage of this every year and what it must cost alone and how that money could be spent better else where.

Its not that so much that boils my P*ss. Its the amount of UK tax payers money our Govt sends overseas to aid other Countries, when our own people here are dieing or being flooded out. I didnt see any overseas money coming in to aid the floods weve experienced over the last few years.

When I see our Govt offering to match pound for pound what ever is raised in events like Soccer-aid, etc, I refuse to give, as our people are entitled to that money before Africans and the like. And I dont feel its theirs to give away

If I gave all my money away and left my own people (family) suffering and neglected, people would think I was mad, but when the Govt. do it, its fine !
 
That's a bit pompous. Although I can see your point, consider what kind of charity is actually going on in places like Africa compared to here. We need a bit of help getting a home rebuilt but we're still healthy and living the easy life compared to many in third world countries where most aid is right at the fundamental food, water and healthcare level. You and I just happen to be fortunate enough to have been born here rather than there.

You can buy insurance for £20 a month to protect against disaster but to your average person in Africa £20 a month means the difference between existing and living.

I actually find these individual cases of raising money somewhat hypocritical as just because Westerners have the power to reach people well off enough to contribute somehow their life is worth thousands of third world ones. The cost of some of these treatments is vast and if the same amount was used elsewhere it would have a much greater effect. It's hard to swallow but put the shoe on the other foot... If you're unlucky enough to be hit with a terminal illness by all means do what you can but ultimately we all have to die and there's too many in this world as it is.
 
Think this thread is taking a dive in the wrong direction. The discussion around govt aid and spending should be in a separate thread in the lounge if you want to discuss it. This thread is Captain Caveman doing what little he can to help a friend in dire circumstances. A bit of tact and understanding should be shown.
 
You mention he is ex army Captain, have you contacted the Royal British Legion, they usually help out in situations like this?

Im not sure what he,s tried all together but i know he is trying everything possible. I think people would do the same if they were in his postion at the moment.
