manual all the way in a true sports car

Totally agree  ... far more 'rewarding' to drive quickly and gives you a much more involved drive :)

I agree.

And I love a girl that can shift through the gears. And I've had girlfriends impressed by my driving too. Its just not a sports car if it not a manual.

Must admit to being a big manual fan too, but my Z4 is an auto and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. I do find myself using the paddles to change though - rather than leaving it in full auto. I think the lines are being blurred more and more now. The future for 'sports cars' seems to the semi auto-type setups that you see on very high end cars - the two most engaging cars I've driven recently (Ferrari 430 F1 & Maserati GT S) both have 'flappy paddle' setups and they were glorious.

I always been a fan of manual transmission, mainly because it's more controllable but I just put a deposit down for a SMG Z4 coupe. My first auto ever and looking forward to it.

All the reviews I read indicate that the auto is superior, the manual box in the Z4 is a bit notchy no?

i wouldnt really consider the SMG an "auto", per se... but.. i guess it kinda is. the only reason i dont.. everytime i turn on the car it stays in manual mode until i engage the "autopilot" feature.

on another note.. i get full enjoyment from the paddles during spirited driving or when entering the highways. other than that.. i find it tedious to have to constantly shift with the paddles while roaming around the suburbs over here. i will usually find myself putting the smg into auto mode so that i dont have to shift all the damn time.
