Hydraulic hinge possibly fail on driver side

Basically it's my dd and I drop the roof every single day ...Couple days ago I arrived home and use the key to close the roof, I stand beside the driver door, some smoke was coming out from the edge of the roof, it does still closed as usual and I totally forgot this happen the day after.

This time when I get home the roof is not closing , I can hear the motor is working but it doesn't close over, I can close it by my hands without using the emergency switch so I believe the hydraulic fluid is not holding and leak somewhere. How much do I looking for to have it fix :(

I aware an US site can have the hinge rebuild but no core exchange now, by grabbing a used roof with everything may cost like £200 and I can send the hinge to rebuild. Before that, would like to see if any alternative solutions since I know this forum has a lot of expert cheers, I am located in Essex area. Thanks

It will only be a burst hose where it joins the roof RAM. It’s a relatively easy fix taking 1-2 hours , so you are probably looking around £200 including the new line.

I have replaced two of these recently, but I am in Bristol, so too far away from you probably

Ouh thanks mate, that's much more comfortable to me ,but unfortunately Bristol is far from me took at least 3 hours drive : ( ... I am at Chelmsford.

Is your motor still in its original location or moved to the boot? Obviously that impacts slightly on the time/difficulty/cost.

Hi Enuff, it is still in original location.
Well then, I'll be completely up-front with you. I've done many relocations now but I have not yet had to replace a pipe.
I fully understand the principle behind it all and I do have spare pipes.
I would not be as quick as Alan and would have a chat with him first to see if there are any tips to doing the job.
I would hapily do it for the same price he has suggested. Sounds like your pump and motor are fine themselves, so no extra costs to be incurred replacing either of those.
If you are happy to drive to Attleborough and be here half a day then I'm happy to help you out with it.
I do NOT have anywhere covered to do it though, so would rely on it being a dry day.
May also be a little while until I can fit it around work etc?

Let me know if you're interested.

Attleborough, I did bring the Z to Snetteron circuit last month lol. Yes I am interested but I am not sure when I can come over, possibly I need to take a day off.

In the other way my place has a car port which is big enough to open both side doors, but maybe not an option right? Cheers

It would be if you’d cover my fuel costs I guess. Again, it comes down to fixing a day?

That all sounds very fair and I’m happy to offer guidance Martin
Cheers Alan,
Having removed pipes from roof assemblies once they're off the car I am happy with the routing and connections.
In this case would you do the relocation first, then lift the other side, or lift the whole roof up in one go.
My thinking is it may be easier to re-secure the left ram first?

As a one man job, I’d do the relocation first as you’ll struggle to lift the roof out alone

I’ll what’s-app you nearer the time Martin

Well finally, after months of prevaricating about the bush I made it to Chelmsford today.
Oh and by the way, it's an M: battery in the boot and rear bulkhead carpet extended out 2 inches to accomadate the amp etc.
Kept that quiet! No pressure then.
4 hours of very careful work later, motor is relocated and neatly hidden behind a section of genuine boot carpet and the lower rh pipe has been replaced. The rh well was full to the brim with water and leaked hydraulic oil! All cleared out and everything tested and working fine.
Thank you very much to [ref]Boyg[/ref] for the hospitality and assistance.
Hope it all goes well from now on
