HPFP

Hi

The Z'ds been struggling to start for a few weeks now, suspect it's the dreaded fuel pump issue.

Any one else been effected?

It's very intermittent though.

Will book it in with the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.

Just wondered if anyone else has long cranking issues (which is the best way to describe the issue).

Come to think of it, mine has done it a couple of times but put it down to the cold and being stood for a couple of days on the drive? Just slightly. Like 6 seconds to start instead of almost instant?

I think long cranking is the first sign of issues with HPFP. The thing would be trying to convince the dealer though.

6 seconds sounds way too long to start. Some weeks mine isn't used for a few days, but always starts on the button, (the Starter button  ) every time.

Edit - but then again I don't have a HPFP. :? :D

It may be a good thing that I couldn't afford buying a brand new 35i. :P

I'd speak with the stealer about it. Common thought is that if its bad at starting, the HPFP needs replacing. If its just now and then, BMW have altered the EM software and opted for a pre-charge on entry rather than pre-charge on start. (The software update makes the HPFP charge when the car is unlocked rather than when you hit the start button, that way the fuel is ready to rock, rather than charging when start is pressed.)

Some people are considering this a cover up. I tend to think of it as a should have been that way in the first place. Some are also conjecturing that it means the HPFP is on its way out and the software masks the issue for a short while before it fails badly. No one will really know until more time has elapsed on the issue.

Ah, but when it does start, the difference is worth it!! :poke: :P

To be fair with mine, it's only done this twice so far. Was fine this morning.
