HOW TO TURN OFF SEAT BELT WARNING SOUND?

The seat belt warning noise is ear bleedingly loud. I spend a lot of time on a great big base which is 20mph speed limit so no need for belt on short trips. Please help? Has anyone successfully deactivated it and done this without triggering restraint warning lights or airbag problems? If so how? Many thanks and a beer to the chap or chapess who can solve this frustrating problem. Happy New Year to all when it comes.( I have a 2004 Z4 se 2.2)

apparently you pull up the handbreak briefly then release it, but this doesn't seem to work with mine, try it you never know.

i was more interested to get my seatbelt warning "decoded" than I was to get the "roof up" feature, but the fella tried everthing & it wouldn't budge.

when i left apparently the car had been told it wasn't fitted with the warning buzzer, and was also told not to use it, but beep it still did.

FYI - this is because I tend to keep stuff on the passenger seat of mine - laptops / bananas / small animals etc 8)

Andy, sorry about the duff info.

on a 2004 3.0 it works fine.

just gently pull up the handbrake until the warning comes on (not so that it locks the rear wheels - although that would be a trick on a BMW :-) ) and ths will cause the warning to stop until the load on the seat is removed like hitting a big hump in the road.

I am assuming you're talking about the drivers belt, not the passengers and I think you're hooped. I spent 20 years in a plant with a 20kmh limit and no seat belt requirement, the alarms beeped for the last 20years until last year when belts became mandatory any time the vehicle is moving. Good luck ....

Ever been hit by an airbag when you're not properly restrained?
Ever run into a wall as fast as you can run, which is roughly 20mph?
Ever been run into when standing still by some moron that wasn't doing 20mph?
If you want to drive without seatbelts, you should (...take yourself out of the gene pool). :poke:

X2 Wouldn't it be easier to do the belt up?

Oh hang on, i thought it was the passanger seat that was the problem..... ignore all i have said, but some folks just pass the seat belt around the back of the seat and plug the thing in.

however, i would recommend wearing it for safety reasons. :tumbleweed:

I work in public safety and I have seen some very serious injuries in low speed accidents.... :(

When i was younger I never used to wear my seat belt which ment it was a habit not to belt up. Thanks to the Zed (this is my first car that has ever warned me) Its now something I don't think about.

How did I ever live this long.....?

Rules were made for the observance of fools and the guidance of wise men.

Personally I would just wear it, but you're looking for a solution, so doubt you'll listen to that...

I think you should either get a spare one from a breaker like gannet suggested or plug it in with the seat belt behind you like dario has suggested. I would definetly not mess around and try to disable it.

i would just wear it, but as peddy said your looking for a solution so probably not worth saying it.

i never used to wear a seat belt all the time, fortunatley when i rolled a car and the roof was within about 2 inches of crushing my head i was wearing it and it stuck me to the seat. if it wasnt for the belt i have no doubt i would be dead.

as climbers and skydivers say, it only takes one mistake.

But thats the point, if I were driving my car in a sufficiently looney manner that I might roll it (and I do) then no question I'd be wearing a belt (and I do). But at 20 mph on a military base is the complete opposite end of the speculum*......

(*that was a joke in case you're tempted)

15mph round the wrong kind of bend in ice was enough to put me on my roof. i know my limits and dont drive like a dick, i wouldnt want to end my life or anyone elses for the sake of speeding or not wearing a belt :D

The closest I came to Death in vehicle was on British military base, skidded to a stop at a blind corner and almost got the truck flattened by a really big tank doing 30mph. WE didn't have our belts done up ....but I don't think it would have helped much. Maybe just to help separate the squashed bits into different bags.

(Yes, the Brits have a base in Suffield, Alberta, Canada. Wide open prairie where they can play with all their nifty toys, and practice freezing to death in the winter as well )

Guess we Brits must be laxer with our speed limits.

Many years ago after leaving one of the big UK banks I worked for AmEx Military Banking and halfway through my first interview two US snowdrops stormed in with machine guns to give me a ticking off for exceeding 5mph on my way to the office on base. To say I shat myself at first would be a mild understatement.....

But later I learnt how useful they could be - if anyone went overdrawn you just phoned the security post and they were marched in at gunpoint to account for themselves.....always worth a hoot! Wish I'd been able to do that in the UK banking system, I might not have left!

Usually most of the boys at the base had just finished a tour of Northern Ireland so being let loose in Western Canada made for a lot of "exuberance".

It's the only time I ever saw a stack of Rolls Royce engines piled 3 high and 50yds long, and to avoid hijacking charges, seatbelts weren't mandatory then.
