About getting rid of old electricals /computer equipment etc and as expected the majority of the replies were for recycling. After ringing several places I found it was going to cost me £50-£80 to have it taken away which I thought was ridiculous so...

:D

£20 better off!

Also managed to get rid of a non-working exercise bike, floor standing lamp and old sowing machine!

Can't beat fleebay for getting rid of old junk. One man's Junk, as they say.

Never actually sold a thing on fleabay myself. We have a family scheme, goes something like.:-

Dad has a once expensive now worth forty or fifty quid piece of consumer white goods. Passes it to daughter who flogs it on fleabay and never mentions it again. Kind of like pocket money for 20 something’s. :D

if you really cant be arsed take it to your local dump and chuck it in the small electricals skip. or a charity shop like oxfam. never had to pay for to get rid of stuff.

selling on ebay is fine but their charges are a joke. i sold a few bits of old ikea stuff for ~80 quid but they charged me ~20 by the time i'd paid charges/paypal etc

also freecycle is a good one

Ebay is the best for this kind of job. I remember last year when I was leaving the UK due to finishing my studies I had a batch of gym weights and bars and I did not know what to do with them so I put them in ebay with no reserve and a guy bought them for 2-3 pounds and he came all the way from Surrey to London to collect them. And he was happy as well as he was collecting them for his gym. So maybe something that is a waste for us will be useful for someone else at the end 8)
