How to clean this bit ?

Has any one got a solution to making the bumper bar behind the grilles clean and presentable ? Usually you cant see it, but when the sun shines through the grill it looks quite grotty.


ps The dead flies are from a blast around Northumberland yesterday afternoon

take the grill out? it only takes 2 seconds, no bolts holding it in just clips.

It forms part of the front crash bar? It looks metal but could be plastic?
Metal then hammerite? Otherwise some sort of plastic trim restorer?

Firstly, if its bad or flaking its a bumper off, and repaint job. It's the front crash bar, so metal paint is needed - the polystyrene piece that fits in front of it (behind the bumper) is easily taken off. Once painted, it's easy to keep clean when you wash the car by spraying some traffic film remover through, leave for a few minutes, hose off and when dry, spray some Aerospace 303 (or plastic polish/protector of choice) through.

What you can see looking down and through your grilles is the bumper carrier and polystyrene impact absorber. The carrier is made from extruded aluminium with a satin black finish that fades and goes grey over time. The polystyrene also fades and looks dull and grey. I removed my grilles (take a good grip of the slats and push firmly upwards whilst pulling the lower edge outwards) and had a good wipe around with solvent panel wipe. I carefully masked around the grille holes and covered the radiator/diagonal support bars with newspaper and then sprayed the carrier/polystyrene with black Plastidip. Replaced the grilles when the Plastidip dried. Clean, tidy and matt black now when you look through my grilles. Sorted !

Well, I pulled one of the grills out and had a go at cleaning it. First cleaned. Then used polish on it. To be honest it was a bit disappointing, it didn't make much difference.
When I get some time it will get painted black

I'd simply black gloss them with caliper paint as will set with a nice laquer look

I used solution finish. Made it nice and black again.
