How to attach number plates

I'm fitting new number plates and the originals are held in place by self-tapping screws - two at the back and four in front.

So I'm tempted to use Halfords double sided tape - any views on this i.e. are they likely to get stolen or fall off? :?

I've got my front plate held on by the same stuff and it is solid, most likely end up braking the plate if some twat tries to steal it. So yes, it is reliable and is not easy to nick.

I must have fitted and changed my number plates 20 times, halfords tape isnt the best i tend to use a thick double sided tape. Secret is to heat it up a bit with a hairdryer its helps it stick. Always put a slight bend it the plate before attaching as the front of the zed is quite curvy.

I used double sided tape from B & Q can't remember the make but it was slightly thicker and stronger than the Halfords stuff I tried.

do you have a local motorfactors? i have bought these double sided pads in the past and my local place has them in handy numberplate size, i use 3 per plate so it hold the plate over the bend of the bumper.

Try 3M VHB (Very High Bond) double sided tape. It's stronger and you can cut it to length, width etc. Comes on a roll and sold by most good hardware stores. I use it on my Jeep 'off road' and haven't lost a plate yet.

I put mine on originally with the double sided sponge tape that came with the plates but found it wasn't strong enough to hold the plate around the curve on the front. I've since replaced using the halfords double sided black sponge it's on solid now with no problems.

Some people prefer a cleaner look as i do no adverts or anything else on the plate exept the reg number.

I have the front plate held on with the standard screws as do not want it to fall off but my rear plate sits in a Carbon look surround and held with tape but if the tape fails the surround should keep the plate in place.

As you can see gives a much cleaner look
