How much for used tyres?

Okay, not sure if I should have stuck this in the buy/sell section, but here goes:

Went and had my new tyres fitted to change over to 'normal' tyres from the RFTs and agreed with the dealer to keep my old ones for me to collect as the rears were still legal (c.2-3mmish) and the fronts were still at 5-6mm. So they have now lost them and sent them on to the recycling depot.

Am now trying to agree some sort of compensation (as I told him their apology was not quite good enough). Anyone have any suggestions as to how much I should be able to get out of them? (note they were 18inch Bridgestones)

Cheers,

Though still legal the rears won't have fetched anything and you'd be lucky to get £50 for the fronts so I'd say £50 max.

Have a look at eBay to see what they're going for.

MCinUK, do a search on Ebay. There is an active market for used tryes in the UK so it should give you a good estimate. Plus, if necesarry, use the "completed listings" function as proof of actual second hand sales prices in case the dealer trys to short change you

The question is how much would you pay for them if you saw them advertised.
Personally I wouldn't have even considered buying them. I think the 50 quid mentioned wou.ld be tops

So a completed listings search on ebay tells me the fronts would be worth £45 - £60 each. The rears...ehh. Of course some amount would need to be added on for personal distress and such. :erm:

Since your seeking compensation not actually selling them I'd work on the basis of remaining tread as a % of cost new.

So if a front is £220 and has 8mm and your have say 5mm left, that would give me 50% of usable tread gone (8-2=6 usable less 3 used) and therefore a value of £110. Do the same for all of them. I've actually rounded down as Min is 1.6mm and you said 5-6mm

Rears say 1mm = 1/6th of value at around £40

Total is in the region £300 from a set of tyres that cost you near £1,000 !!!
Barter down from there.

The fact is it's not what they are worth to resell but the remaining value to you. You could argue they were to go onto a set of Winter rims.
