How much antifreeze (waterpump change)?

Can anyone tell me how much antifreeze I'm going to need to top up after changing waterpump & stat?

Thanks Mike
I’m off to the stealers tomorrow to get the real stuff. The question is really how much I’m going to have to replace after I drain the system down and change the pump/stat.

The handbook says cooling system capacity for M54 manual transmission is 8.3 litres and auto 8.8 litres.

His is a facelift Si, so it's the electric pump he's replacing.

Personally I wouldn't pay bmw prices for coolant. Very down to Costco and get some Prestone or any other decent long life brand from euro.

I would flush the system and replace it all.

I'm pretty sure they changed it last year when it got a (BMW) service so I thought I'd spoil it with the same stuff (and there's a stealer within a mile of my office which makes it easy).

I changed mine last year and only needed a litre of coolant and litre of deionised water. Didn’t drain coolant, just what was lost when pump was removed.. :?

My water pump turned up from Germany today

What’s weird is it actually looks like a turbo rather than a water pump

3 bottles of BMW coolant which is then mixed 50/50 with distilled water. It's only £30 from BMW so no need to shop around for other stuff. Each bottle is 1.5l so you'll need 4.5l of water and you'll have up to a litre left from it all so don't worry about small spillages.
