How long can you leave battery disconnected?

Hi all,

Mid way through changing my rocker cover - been a right pain in the arse due to missing tools/etc… long story short, I have an 3/8 E10 Torx socket (for the valve cover bolts) that I need to connect to a 1/4 torque wrench.

Apparently I’m the first guy in the world to run into this problem judging from the lack of success I’ve had finding anything that will do the job in an actual shop today!! So I’ve resorted to ordering from Amazon, so hoping the adapter will turn up tomorrow.

Anyway - I disconnected the battery this morning before starting the job, which I was hoping would be done and dusted by now…

How long can I leave the battery disconnected? Is it worth plugging back in now?

As mentioned half way through the job, so have a load of unplugged sensors/wiring, valvetronic motor is also unplugged…

Is it better to leave it unplugged? Hoping the Amazon man comes first thing tomorrow… or at least so that I have some daylight left to play with.

Thanks all!

No need to plug it back while you are waiting for the parts. I’ve had mine unplugged for six months without adverse effects.

Thanks DMike, good to know! :)

Didn’t realise I was going to have it disconnected longer than a few hours at most - was worried there might be some gremlins if it was left too long… but 6 months should give me plenty of time to finish the job!!

I have a battery isolator on mine so it sits without power for weeks on end sometimes, no issues bar the clock needs a reset
