How does Efficient Dynamics work?

I have a 3.0si and regulary get around 40mpg when cruising on motorway and it never drops below 29mpg when drving around town. To me thats amazing from a 3.0 engine. So how does the E.D work. Also its low co2 for the size of the engine. Very impressive BMW.

Thats very impressive, my M54 3.0 gets ~34 on a motorway and nearer 28 mixed use.

Nice improvement on the newer engine and more power

I believe you engine has smart features such as a electric water pump which only operates as required (reducing drag on the engine like a traditional belt driven pump would). It is also said to use a lot of lightweigh parts inside which can only be good for response and reducing losses.

ED is just a catch-all word for clever little bits of engineering to make things more efficient.

It can cover everything from stop-start engine tech, to special oils in the differentials, to the fundamental building blocks of the engine (N54 like you have it very advanced from the block up!)
