How do you wash your windscreen with roof down?

ok this may sound stupid but i was driving to work this morning with the roof down and noticed my windscreen was filthy and the car infront squirted there washers so some went on mine, and then proceeded to collect road dust and made it worse (still absolutely fine to drive so it wasnt unsafe) and i wondered how the hell do i clean it without stopping, putting roof up, cleaning, then lowering (with a wet roof i assume is bad?)
I didnt dare try but i assume if u squirt with roof down while driving along the air current will drag the overspray everywhere in the car and your face haha?

so wondered what the standard practice is as im new to the convertible crew

It will be fine as long as you are doing a sensible speed >30. Make sure your drivers window is up though :wink:

If you are stationary you will likely get wet ; if your lights are on and you have washers then you will definitely get wet if you're stationary.

If you're moving, I find at 20/30mph the airflow will direct the flow onto the windscreen, not over the top. Though you may still get a bit wet with your lights on. Anything over this speed and the water will still be forced onto the windscreen by airflow, but it will come round the side of the A pillars (mainly the driver side), and either drip right in with windows down, or it will run along the top of the window and dribble inside about halfway along (rain does the same).

So, skoosh at low speed, headlights off if possible, and don't speed up for a short period of time (10-15 secs ?) so the water runs down the side of the windows.

I always forget my lights are on and get a wet head

haha sounds like its just trial and error then, i have no light washers so thats easier. guess ill just try it out on a quiet back road at about 30 with the windows up and see what happens then

You'll be fine, I never seem to have an issue, but as above I only pull the lever for 1/2 sec. If you flood the screen you will have issues.

its not the over the top that's the issue for me.. its the inevitable dribble onto the drivers knee that ALWAYS gets me...

Very, very carefully! I have managed to come up with a solution where so long as I am not going too rapidly and have the windows up, I can do a half pull on the lever and I just get sufficient screenwash on the screen to do the job without it going everywhere.

I use the same technique - it works

I did this the other day, and my Mrs wasn't impressed with the sudden blue rinse, I got called a few choice names and that I should have known better.

What's a dirty windscreen? Is that a new feature I've missed?

Two or three minimal skooshes of the skooshers then the auto sensing kicks in and the wipers clean the windscreen.
