How can I tell if a car has upgraded audio?

If the independent dealer doesn't know.

EDIT: If the standard setup has 6 and the two upgrades have 10, where are the 6 positioned and where are the 10 positioned?

Thanks

Matt

have a look for a box next to the battery in the boot - it is where the extra amp goes. and also it will be lacking two cubby hole behind the seats where the subs go.

Yes, there will be a large rectangular mesh with a speaker behind the lower back of each seat , in addition to the smaller round ones higer up. - i.e. there will be no cubby hole behind the seats.

Rgds.

Have a read of the FAQ at the top of the General forum.

Will do sorry.

Thanks for the replies guys, will phone the dealer tomorrow and get him to check.

There is no explanation of how you easily spot the difference between 10spkr and 10spkr Carver though.

Imo, either will be good with the 10spkr setups :)

I have 6spkr and am happy enough for the type of car. I'd find it hard to justify the extra weight when I'm not really sure I'd WANT the extra sound level... hmmmmmm

It only has the standard set up.

Thought I'd found a winner then. Guy said I could get a car audio place to upgrade the ICE, but would rather see what I can find with an OEM install I think.

Hmm,

i've had Z4s with the 10 speaker set up and without. Although there is a big difference in the depth and fullness of the sound neither are anything to get excited about.

I wouldn't overlook a good car that does not have it. My first Z4 didn't, second did, third didn't. I removed the TV from my second one and put in the third but frankly couldn't be arsed with the amp and speakers...

Model/colour/ interior colour etc are difficult to change. Speakers - easy...

I'd not be too fussed either.

You can worry too much about spec lists. The only upgrade I wouldn't be without would be leccy heated M-sports, essential for any Z4 imo, and 18" wheels for looks :D

I experienced Carver, 10spkr and my own, and as above, there is more depth but not something you will miss in a car. I guess it depends what you buy a car for, but the Z4 is about driving without the sound-generator foam in and the roof down, not listening to music with loads of low-frequency volume and clarity (6 spkr is by no means bad, it's still a good hifi on the 3.0, upgraded from the cheapy spec one in the smaller engined cars!)

The 3.0i standard radio is analog amp input.

The 10spkr and 10spkr Carver are digital to the amps, so the amps are basically useless with anything but the digital head units that BMW offer you with them.

Anyone know the weight difference? It's got to be in the region of 10-15kg... not worth the extra unless you experience both and decide it's a key thing your car has to have.

I thought Xenons were amazing of Halogen until I tried uprated halogen bulbs with the beam raised a turn at each side... then Xenon just seemed much less needed.

Spec chasing when buying is the biggest distraction going.

Heated M-sports, roof down any time except rain, nothing else will matter!

Thought the Carvers had a DSP button too? If you have anything other than Bass / Treble controls it's Carver/Logic7.

I upgraded the 6spk, & love it. I bought the car for the noise of the engine not the stereo too, but sometimes on the motorway with the roof down it was a let down considering how good the rest of the car is.

an aux-in is a great little upgrade for £15 though if it hasn't already got it
