Hotel recommendations around the Nurburgring?

Got my nephew coming over for a visit at the beginning of May and promised to take him down to the 'ring for a day, watching and also maybe a lap in a ring taxi. My days of blasting around there in whatever was available are well and truly over sadly.

Back in my day years ago when I shared the Atom and did long weekends at the Ring we used to camp out close to the Nurburg castle to save a bit of money, but I suspect the nephew will want somewhere to plug in his hair dryer etc

Any recommendations for clean, cheapish hotels for one or two nights close to the circuit?

This guest house in Adenau is perfectly located in the centre of Adenau, 2 minutes at worst from the BlauEcke hotel and 5 mins from the fairly famous Pinocchios Pizza restaurant. In fact most of Adenaus bars & restaurants are no more than a few minutes stroll.

The rooms are spotless and very comfortable, breakfast is very good and they have a small private car park. I've personally stayed there at least on ten different trips and it's now always my first choice. Eva, the owner speaks very good English and is very helpful and welcoming. No bar, but as said the Blau Ecke and its popular bar are a very short walk away.

Being a guesthouse the prices are very reasonable.

I should add that the set up isn't like a UK B&B where you're in someones house, it's more like a hotel.

Years ago I raced with the Austin Healey Club. We used to make an annual trip to the Eiffel Klassik meeting and always stayed at Gasthous Gilles in Mullenbach. If I remember correctly less than 10 mins from the circuit main entrance. It was some years ago I was last there but it might be worth a look.

I stayed at Apex Nurburg with a group last year, and it was excellent. Went to book for our group this year and the price has nearly doubled! I'd still recommend it dependant on your budget.

I stayed there on my very first Ring trip in 1993, I recall it being nice and the food good.

The waiter there didn't speak any English and I spoke no German, he did both a chicken and cow impersonation to point out chicken and steak on the menu - the steak was

Got a couple of rooms at the Paddock b&b in Mullenbach at the south end of the circuit.
Adenau does seem to have rocketed in price! Blimey!

Weather forecast at the 'ring for our upcoming trip Saturday/Sunday looking absolutely fantastic!
Couldn't be better!

That's part of the appeal for me.

I can go in May and get snow/hail...or go in November and get cold & dry laps all weekend.

I'm happy in any weather...other than fog, as they won't open it then.

We usually stay in Cochem when at the Ring. Just a bit more interesting than Adenau............though you do have to dodge to old biddies on the boat trips

That reminds me, I should have updated this thread with a follow-up on where we stayed.
The Paddock B&B in Mullenbach was our final choice and it was tip top.
I've camped on Nurburg Hill previously, stayed in some of the pensiones in Adenau, kipped in a van in the ring carpark, been disappointed by some of the poshyposh hotels dotted around the ring but this was a pleasant surprise actually.
Quite an unassuming place positioned at the south side of the ring on the periphery of an industrial estate, it does actually look like it could be a factory/garage from the outside.
Inside however, was a revelation. My room in particular was massive with a lovely en-suite, and views out over the Mullenbach countryside.

What engine block is this? Answers on a postcard...

Bits of racing parafenalia were dotted about all over the place, giving it a real petrolhead theme

Matty was overjoyed at the Euro1.00/bottle policy and the well-stocked beer cooler in the breakfast lounge. We did end up bringing back a crate of Chang beer from the local Lidl tho


Matty suggested we should bring back some local frauleins back in the evening to make a porn movie using this rather porntastic blue chaise longue in my room. I politely advised him that my days of impromptu blue-movie productions were well and truly over some time ago

I was happy just gazing out over the countryside the following morning.
