Recorded Queen and Adam Lambert, that's for tomorrow night and another bottle of single malt
Love to hear the stuff from Queen, still listen to the early stuff regularly - Sheer Heart Attack, Queen 1 & 11, Night at the opera...cosmic.
Have to give credit where it's due, Lambert has the voice to hit the notes Freddy did when he was young - Paul Rogers did a great job mind, but he had to be selective with the tracks that suited his voice. Prefer Paul in his Free days - ROCK ON

Yes, another big Queen fan here - they were (still are) an iconic band. I must admit, I do like Lambert and have to agree he can, as you say, hit the notes that Freddy did - which is great but his voice lacks Fredd'ys depth and tone. That said he's never tried to copy Freddy, he does his own vocal versions and he does have a certain charisma. He fits well with the band I think.
You must be the only other person apart from me that I've heard say Paul Rogers did a good job with Queen! People never got it, he wasn't there trying to replicate Freddy - they were all trying something different and for me it worked, Paul doing Queen stuff and vice versa. I've seen Paul Rogers live a few times. The last time was about 5/6years ago at the MEN with a reformed Bad Co. He can still hold a tune and looks pretty ferkin' cool for a bloke a few years older a than me.

Dewi - Spot on with Lambert's voice description...I was telling my 26 year old son just how good Freddy's voice was, & to convince him I played him 'You Take My Breath Away' from Day at the Races, & 'Lily of the Valley' - he was blown away!
I think collectively Queen were always a very well respected band - even by other musicians. But, individually my feeling was they were all quite underrated. May is actually an excellent guitarist. Taylor a superb drummer and Deacon was a fine bass player all in their own rights - and Freddy was an incredible vocalist, he was almost operatic at times (in fact I always thought with th eright training he would have made an excellent opera singer if he hadn't become a rock star). Yet, none of them were regarded with the same esteem as some of the contemporary rock gods of the day - e.g Plant, Page and Clapton etc. Maybe I'm wrong but that was always my perception.
